At Dance Academy last night, M-Zone graced the decks... MY GOD, I'VE NEVER DANCED SO HARD TO A PERFECTLY MIXED SET BY M-ZONE! It was pure class! He was mixing SO FAST. He had mew bass lines comming in from the next track barely after the first tracks bass line had been played.

His skill at picking out EXACTLY the right moment to shift an etire hardstyle bass at intervals so early in all tracks is phenomenal. His set just kept going and going and going and diving more and more harder sounds.

I was so impressed, and there was loads of tunes that were amazing that I'd never heard before.

M-Zone, you were brilliant last night @ Dance Academy.

Im quite happy to admit that M.zone as far as hardstyle is concerned
Is one of the most original DJ's i have heard recently

every set that i have ener witnessed by zone has been fukin wikkid
he always plays the rite tunes at the rite times
he's really good at killswitching as well
whenever M.zones playing at a rave i'll leave anyother DJ (apart from mark EG) to go watch him cos with M.zone your guarenteed a belter of a set

I know what you both mean by tune selection over mixing, but this time M-Zone got it spot on. Mixing was tight, fast and timed brilliantly... and the tunes were well phat.

Great set.

I disagree. I believe M-Zone probably practices them very well, the problem is that the mixes he does are so quick that he's not leaving him self much time to be sure its properly matched. He's got to get the vinyl ready to be cued up asap during the first break of the tune that's playing.

Saying that I don't know for sure, but I'd say any margin for error is totally gone in M-Zone's style of mixing because of how fast he does it.

That's fair enough... your of course allowed to think that... but the entire point of this post was not to illustrate whether M-Zone is good or not. HE WAS AMAZING at Dance Academy when I last saw him. Awesome in fact. And I just wanted to share this with people on the board...

It's not often I'm taken back by a set so much, this one was really really good and deserves a mention.

Yeah, i agree with this Hakka. You've got to take into account - He has to cue up ASAP, he is in a club enviroment and he has to get tune selection right. As Hakka said, he mixes so fast, the pitch isn't spot on.

I vary my own mixes and when mixing fast, obviously you dont have as much time, so the odd beat will slip. Massive Bass changes is the key really.

I do agree that sometimes his mixes are sometimes rough but as some people have already said with the speed he mixes at it is to be expected

When you are on the the dancefloor stomping to mick you are gonna stay rockin all the way through his set

I give that to the tune though! it does go off, and the crowd do love it. It's one of those tunes that I've grown to dislike... think its Eminems voice over and over that's done it!

lol...

There's much better hardstyle about, but that's just my taste/opinion.

Ben C

its really bad that tune IMO. eminems voice does my nut in as it is, never mind when its saying 'nobody listen 2 techno lets go, nobody listen 2 techno lets go, nobody listen 2 techno lets go, nobody listen 2 techno lets go,nobody listen 2 techno lets go, nobody listen 2 techno lets go'...etc etc etc.....the sample doesnt even fit in properly in 2 the tune, it sounds out of time, and just sounds really shit IMO. even without the sample the tune is just the same kick and bass and noises that isaac uses in every single track he's ever made. :nono: :nono:

mind u, its not as bad as Thriller, but it dont get much worse than that!!!

M-Zone's is the dogs bits for me, up there with Mark for the respect he commands

Most people will have an m-zone tape or cd in their collection.

When i saw him at the last North event in Bristol he totally made my night along with Mark EG cause their set were banging and mixing spot on.

M-Zone's style of music that he spun & made in the 90's was very individual to him and deffo helped create a scene.

sorry mate, but no, i dont know what u mean!

I started listening to Hardstyle thru Screamer Hardstyle website, a Dutch run site that u used to be able to download sets by the likes of Dana, Technoboy, Pavo, Isaac, Luna etc. Then id get the tracks I'D'd by folk on that site who know their stuff, and set about buying the tunes i loved on these sets, and from there my love for Hardstyle grew and grew.

so where does M Zone come into it?!

maybe he introduced a lot of folk on here to the sound of Hardstyle, but certainly not me. ;)

Well, I like Nobody Listens to Techno and Thriller, and i'm not really concerned with what others think unless they get a really bad reaction in a club - which has never happened, mainly because I had both when they were still pretty unheard of and hard to get (I had Thriller back in 2002 and Techno on it's first print). I wouldn't play them out now because they're so widely available and have both been overplayed, but they'll always be special to me.

ben you are misundersatnding me too m8, What i am saying is that Mzone brought the hardtrance sound to the uk many many moons ago. and he never helped break that sound through hear we wouldnt have know a lot of it.

ye m8 I understand that, and if u lived in England, where he plays most of his gigs, then theres a good chance he wouldve been one of the 1st hardstyle dj's youd have heard.

what im saying is, i heard loads of hardstyle before i even knew M Zone played Hardstyle, cos id never seen him up here, or seen a liveset by him on the net. so i would have heard of hardstyle / hardtrance thru the Europeans DJ sets i downloaded, whether M Zone brought the sound to the UK or not.

therefore M Zone has absolutely bugger all to do with the reason i listen to, or play the music i do now. Ive only seen him play once, when i played alongside him and Vortex @ Addiction in April this year,(which was BANGIN!) and have only ever heard one M Zone CD, so he's hardly a hero for me, for the simple fact i havent heard enough of him thats all im saying!!!

although i do understand that he is an Icon for many people on here, as he wouldve introduced a lot of folk to the sounds of Hardstyle and his sets are always banging to the max, but maybe if he'd played more often in Scotland i would have been the same, but most of the shitty clubs we have here would never book a DJ like M Zone or Mark EG...

I also have heaps of respect to M Zone, Mark EG and Vortex for being the leaders in this sound for the UK, and the fact that they will always stick to what they like, not what the big 'superclubs' want to hear, and they are the UK Ambassadors for Hardstyle!

hope ive explained myself clearly enough this time lol

Nah, I agree with Ben. Although he was on to hard trance and hardstyle very early, and was intsrumental in it's popularity, it still would have made it's way here with or without him.

I was into hardstyle before M Zone started playing it, so I don't think you can really say that he bought it over here, and everyone owes him. This is the age of downloading and everyone has the ability to hear tunes as soon as they are released anywhere in the World - it's not like it was back in the day when trance first made it's way over here.

[quote=Jay M]therefore M Zone has absolutely bugger all to do with the reason i listen to, or play the music i do now. Ive only seen him play once, when i played alongside him and Vortex @ Addiction in April this year,(which was BANGIN!) and have only ever heard one M Zone CD, so he's hardly a hero for me, for the simple fact i havent heard enough of him thats all im saying!!!

;)

so what you`d never ever heard any hardstyle untill u went to this site and just started downloading random djs??
I know uve explained yourself, and i havnt got a problem with what your saying, but i still think m-zone must have played a hand in you finding hardstyle somehow. :hmm:

maybe ur heads 2 far up his ass then mate.

ive explained meself, im not doing it again.

go and read my post again. FFS!!!

Let's let Ben be please. He's explained his point of view and he's more than welcome to think what he feels is right.

The biggest thing about this forum is respect for others opinions, even when they differ from our own.
