My mate is from Buckfastleigh in Devon and no one round there drink that stuff. I know it's hot in Scotland tho.

Never seen it in Holland. Bloody fighting juice.

I'm looking at the bottle now. How many alcoholic drinks sold legally have the following printed on the label....

Contains By Weight

Glycerophosphate 50% solution ... 0.65%
Potassium Glycerophosphate 50% solution... 0.65%
Caffeine... 0.055%

and it has the added plus of being invented by monks...

We all used to drink it round here when we were underage. Mental juice. That and Thunderbirds, MD20/20, Ravers, Fruits Unlimited etc...

Buckfast remains a cult drink in most of central Scotland. There's even a bar in my home town that serves it by the glass!!!

what a bizarre thread - its like massplanck hijacked his own thread. I guess thats fair enough! I personally never thought of born slippy as being loopy, although if you drink enough buckfast I am sure it can send you loopy, not that I want to.

As for loopy techno labels, hmmm, how about User, or Player. Always been a fan of them, cheeky at times, but effective and good to have in the bag.

how can loopy techno be good? good techno requires programming.

suppose block printing or reproductive pop art can be effective but its limited in appeal compared to the true masters

you're right - shame most of it is poor quality photocopies rather than Warhol genius.

There are a few like Lawrie Emersion and Ignition Technition that really light my fire but like all artisits do suffer from bum releases.

plenty of it does. lots of stuff is programmed more yet sounds shite.i should have used a different word than loopy.

now I would prefer a locked groove than an artist pretend they have written at track with one loop - but I do know what you mean about programmed tracks with heavy repetition being cool.

scienceofuse
16-06-2004, 07:41 PM
Well, the problem with locked grooves is that they don't go anywhere. Even the introduction of a simple hi-hat or a short break now and then can keep the crowd on their toes, as far as loopy techno is concerned. But I agree that some artists seem to blow tracks out their asses, producing one looped track after another, which leads to DJs digging through tons of loop-based records to find the good stuff. This is not to say all loop-based techno is shite, just that it's become a formula and it's hard to find a good record among all these uninspiring formulaic ones.

loopy techno is good. its about how u mix them and layer them. a good techno dj works his tunes rather than lettin them work for him

i'd have to agree there! as far as i was aware, we dont play tracks to the crowd. the idea is to make new sounds and songs... otherwise you're just a nova fm dj mixing the last 20 secs. of a horrible dance rmx of some horrible pop song!!!

well there is one extremely bright beacon of light on there on a wed night. from 11-1 I think. With guest mixes + PA's from Damon Vallero/Grovskopa and hosts of others technopop stars aswell as his own deft mixing.

Actually you missed a mix from Jeff Amadeus Wednesday gone, would have been up your alley I'd say. Garvan was mentioning to me last night about someone he had been doing hard (as opposed to very hard!) techno tracks with, I guess that was you? Will have to get a listen to them, he seemed pretty happy with them anyway...

surely the whole point of loop records is to leave the breakdowns to the dj.

anybody can throw 2 loop records on top of each other, but it takes a dj to blend 3 loop trax & make sumthin happen (see Carola, Slobodan, Blackman, Misjah for details)

3 dex with lock grooves & a groovebox & djm600 is top fun
