this will probably put 2 much stress on yer HD/ CPU/RAM and Soundcard with no hearable difference from working on a "much more than necessary" 24bits 48Khz!!

Does the sound card support that sample rate? that should b the first thing 2 check!

I know a professional audio engineer who goes red and rants for hours whenever anyone mentions working at 48khz.

The theory is that you will almost always have to resample to 44.1khz at some point post production and the distortion/loss of quality resulting from resampling is far worse than if you just started out at 44.1khz in the first place.

working at 24bit if fine though as it is a direct and easy multiple of 16bit (8bits more means 256 times more 'vertical' resolution)

I think 96khz is overkill, unless your doing some mad bat-science or something

it's true about the sample rate. But I only do one resample.. at the end. 48khz definatl moves the Nyquist freq. above any perception... that's my prefered way. Bit like having a better resolution and less quantization if u work straight with 32 bits float. But this is a bit overkill 4 my setup... for now I really can't b bothered 4 the marginal gain! But again that's just me!

hmmm, maybe ur right, but i really want to listen how 96 sounds on synths. i can config card to 96 khz but when i switch form 44.1 to 96 track extremly pitches up. only with cubase this problem happens.

that's the thing U have 2 have all your audio files converted 2 96KHz.
Then U can have a project at 96khz.
What u doing is a bit like playing a 33.3 rpm record and then changing the speed of the deck 2 78rpm!

PS - U won't hear any difference if u "upsample", it's a bit like having a black and white foto and then seeing that foto on a colour TV, .. U'll b able 2 see it no prob, but it will still b black and white.

Increasing the sample rate 2 something already recorded with an inferior sample rate won't add any quality at all!

PS - Anyways U won't notice any difference between 96 and 48.. it ain't humanly possible. If u do notice any differences it will b due 2 the extra heavy processing necessary!
