Genelec is introducing its new line of near-field two-way systems. The new Genelec 8000 MDE Series of Bi-amplified Active Monitors is comprised of three new models: the 8030A, 8040A, and 8050A. These new models have been designed to replace the 1029A, 1030A, and 1031A, respectively.

As in the development of the 7000 LSE Series subwoofers, the new 8000 MDE Series takes a new approach to enclosure design, driver technology, and active electronics. In order to improve frequency and power responses, Genelec has designed a new enclosure, featuring rounded edges and gently curved front and sides. In addition to improved frequency response, the minimized cabinet edge diffraction provides imaging qualities. All three models utilize an entirely aluminum MDE design with integrated Advanced Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW), yielding large internal volumes with mechanical strength.

The 8030A, the smallest of the series, features a 5-inch bass driver along with a 3/4-inch tweeter loaded into a new Advanced DCW. The free field frequency response is 58 Hz to 20 kHz ( 2.0 dB). Peak SPL per pair is 108 dB, driven by a pair of 40 Watt amplifiers.

The intermediate sized 8040A incorporates a newly designed 6-inch woofer and a 3/4-inch tweeter also set into the Advanced Genelec DCW. The free-field frequency response is 48 Hz to 20 kHz ( 2.0 dB). Peak SPL per pair is 115 dB, achieved utilizing 90 Watt amplifiers for each driver.

The 8050A is the largest model. Like its predecessor, the 1031A, it utilizes a new proprietary 8-inch bass driver and a 1-inch tweeter also set into the Advanced DCW. The 8050A will produce peak SPLs of 120 dB with a free-field frequency response of 38 Hz to 20 kHz ( 2.0 dB). Bass and treble amplification is 150 and 120 Watts respectively.

Also included with each 8000 monitoring system is the unique Genelec Iso-Pod, Isolation -- Positioner Decoupler. The Iso-Pod is a clever mounting stand that allows for monitoring in either vertical or horizontal orientation. It enables the end user to accurately aim the acoustic axis of the monitor to the listener, as well as mechanically decouple it from the surface on which it rests.

In addition to the new rounded enclosure design and driver selection, the 8040A and 8050A models also feature new crossover filters and room response controls. A Desktop (console) Bass Control has been added along with the customary Genelec Bass Tilt, Bass Roll-off, and Treble Tilt Controls.

All 8000 Series systems are magnetically shielded for use in environments where video monitors are in close proximity. Omnimount and Genelec monitor stand fixing holes are also standard for all three models.

The new Genelec 8000 MDE Series of Bi-amplified Active Monitors are available now.
