Not finished yet, but I thought I'd try and get some feedback on what I've got so far. I'm quite pleased with how it's souding, but I'm still very much in the learning stages of producing, so any comments etc. would be helpful...

this is very good to say your in the early stages of producing, you have used some very nice panning to give the sounds their own space, the mix sounds a little muffled, but not much, keep up the good work

the learning stage of production never ends mate ;)
This is good mate.
As dan said, overall the track could do with sounding crisper and more defined.
Love those trumpets.
this could be a really good track, keep us informed of it`s progress.
And if you want a remix done, I`d love to attack some the sounds and patterns in here.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I've sort of finished this now, changed a few of the sounds a bit & had a go at tightening up the eq. Still sounds a bit muffled though, so I might go over it again once more - any suggestions on how I could increase the clarity?

A remix would be great, what sort of format would be easiest for you to work from?

Sounds pretty cool man... Personally I wouldn't go with the super-hard-techno sounding kick/bass though... kinda deviates from the feel of the rest of the track... but maybe that's just me ;)

Do a zero level restart.
Zero all levels, and work the main elements to their repective volumes. Then start fitting the other elements around them.
Try using more subtractive eq than additive, as you will get a cleaner and less cluttered mix.
And generally add more top to the high elements in there.
Also maybe the bass is making the mix muddy. Pull out any frequencies on the bass that aren`t necessary.

As for what format I prefer.
Wav, or mp3.
Loops or whole tracks streamed dow.

You might have a point about the kick xfive, although I do quite like the contrast it and the rest of the track. Perhaps I'll soften it up a bit when I re-EQ everything...

Thanks for the mixing tips dirty_bass - I'll rework the track again when I have the time. I've uploaded a zip file that contains most of the tracks elements (mainly in loop form), if there's anything missing, just let me know and I'll try and get it to you. Cheers...

Oh and if anyone else is interested, they're quite welcome to use these loops too, just be sure to show me any work you do with them....

Reworked mix done. (homepage.ntlworld.com/family.stevens2/mix2.mp3)
Not perfect, but an improvement...

nice one. personally, i think the breakdown is too long by about 30 seconds, but overall it sounds pretty good. i dig it.

Ah shit that was dumb of me. Linked to the wrong file.

This should work. (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/family.stevens2/remixpack.zip)

Cheers, I think you're probably right about the breakdown, but I'm going to leave this track be for a while (beginning to get bored of it). If I come back to it I think I'll cut it down...
