View Full Version : TRIBUTES TO THE COUNTRY CLUB
Hakka.

I've been fortunate enough to come to Country Club twice, and for those two nights it was the most amazingly rollercoaster experience of a dark and twisted night of hard trance that I have ever experienced anywhere.
I will be comming down on 26th October 2002 and will bring as many people as I can down from Plymouth for some serious stomping!
Best of luck to CC Staff/Crew.

If you've ever been to this amazing place, you'll know how special it was. Please write your own personal tribute to the club here. I'd love to compile these and make some sort of gift to the owner. I wont tell you exactly what I want to do, but it'll be special. Please tell anyone you know who ever went to the club to do the same too.
PS Leave your e-mail address at the end so I can get it touch with further details.
AND REMEMBER TO BE THERE ON OCT 26TH!

The CC was such a special place, abit like the Monastery, which unfortunately has also now gone. I presume that it was down to the authorities again!!!!
Although it was a long trip from Torquay, i made it as often as i could and really loved everything about the place. It had that something special, it was to do with the atmosphere that was generated by the clubbers and DJ's, as much as Clive and the staff.
It's not very often you come across a club with this sort of atmosphere, but we have now lost 2 in the space of a year, which now means that we have even further to travel just to be able to go to a decent club, where they play for the clubbers and not for the money.
CC you will be missed.
p.s. Mark, i work for a clubbing website, called Xserv Digital, doing reviews of clubs/events. Do you think it would be a nice guesture to do a final review on the demise of this great little club?
let me know what you think, Paul

##Posted this before but thought it fitting to include here##
Just wanted to add to Simon that the C.C is not the kind of club to be affected by commercial clubs, its a class by itself as im sure Mark will agree as will anyone else thats actually been there a few times. I have been going there for about 2 years and my only regret is that i didnt start going sooner! "You never forget your first time" i remember the first time i pulled up in the car, up this stoney rough track, then this weather beaten rather dull looking building. I walked up the stairs and in through the doors and couldnt believe my eyes, somethign magical happens inside. Its undescribable. The music sets the mood immediately and the atmostphere is unreal!.
Then you make your way down stairs, on the way down ur chest vibrates to the driving bass emerging from the downstairs (Main) room. Walk through the monsters mouth (Decor on the surroundings to the room) and onto the dance floor where a 25k sound system meets you with great approval to your ears.
After that one night i was hooked as is everyone else i have ever spoken to there. It truly is impossible to explain this place. It will be sorely missed, and all because of a few individuals.
What kept this amazing place such a magical and welcoming place ? what was its secret? one word......
CLIVE! (the owner)
His love for the music, and the people that attended week after week were what made it what it was/is. He has done so much for so many people (almost to the point of killing himself with all the stress of "other" matters) it is a real shame some people did not realise, either that or they just didnt didnt give a f**k. It makes me truly angry to see it go and for the reason behind it.
Ive seen Mark play many times up there, aswell as many other huge names, DJ Natron (Flutlicht), Lab 4 to mention but a few and always supported by the best residents, past and present, you could ask for (Meri, Cross + Spinout, BenEye, Dave Scott, Liberator).
Closing night 26th Oct is sure to be an emotional one, i will be sure to be there early to ensure i get in and who better than Mark to play the C.C out one last and very sad time. Im sure there will be a few tears - (And who gives a f**k.)
Anyways, that said all thats left to say now for one last time Mark .......
"See you down the front!!"

Any publisity is good on the clountry club. Everybody who is into the scene should know about the place as it is truly amazing. In years to come I want The country club & dance daddy to be a house hold name.
Let the legend live on & never forgotton.

i'm now doing this as a joint effort with a colleague of mine. We will do our utmost to put into words the way everyone felt about the place, to let people who never got there experience it through our words and photos, although that will be the hardest part.
see you all on the 26th.

The country club, what can i say , i spent 3-4 years of my life there and it changed my life in such a big way . b4 i went to club i did'nt like going clubbing much as most clubs were full of assholes and nobody cared that the sound in nearly all clubs i had been to was very very bad and yet the main reason people go clubbing is to hear music, when i found the country club clive had only been running it for a short time but yet he was already on a never-ending mission to give people something extra , the vibe in this place was spiritual , nobody cared how many people were there. I remember the new years eve party for the millennium it was 9 in the morning mark was on the decks and played what I would have to say was the most rememrable set I've ever herd with the best vibe with only about 100 people left standing. This club introduced me to the happy people in club land and now thanks to the contacts I made at the club and the ambition it gave me I moved to London to open "basement vinyl" a record shop and studio which has been more successful than I could ever dream.
Thank you to the country club and thank you to Clive who put every effort into making every sat night worthwhile .....

Ya I just went to the Dance Daddy website.....
Seeing pictures of the backdrops on the walls (with those medieval creatures Clive painted) brought back the same goosebumps I had when I first saw them in person 2 years ago.....
Just goes to show you how much he loved the place to go and paint all that freaky stuff and decorate it to perfection the way he did... (not even mentioning the great sound system that was there)
I really hope his health problems are behind him too....
Clive & the rest of the CC Crew have most definatley set a bench mark that all other underground events I attend will be measured against.

URGENT... please stop them bulldozing the club. In the emotional turmoil that followed the last tune I ran out of the club leaving my head on the speakers by the decks and my heart in the men's toilets.
Msg for Chrissi: Please contact me, I can't find your number on my phone!!!! Cheers Colleen.xxx
