BPI gives Jetgroove a kick in the head

Not a fan of the BPI - mainly because they care more about protecting the interests of the major labels than consumers but...

BPI announced that it has taken action against download site Jetgroove.com. The site had posted 50,000 songs without the permission of the copyright holders but asserted that it would pay royalties on the songs.

Its song previews, depending on their duration, require licensing just as much as selling the tracks do, and it's this alleged copyright violation that the BPI and IFPI have used to stamp on the site.

This is particularly interesting as it draws attention to why mix site like emotionelectric were pulled....hmm what a bunch of ....

I guess this board is generally for protecting the careers of artists - well hell the board is full of active talent - but there is a fine line between concented promition by the artist that gives people a trial and losing revenue on independent releases because people don't buy who otherwise would.
