Julian Liberator
Style: Tribal techno – funked hard

After moving from the west of England to London in 1987 Julian began organising warehouse parties with a small group of like - minded people in and around the London area (the biggest of which was a free festival at Castle Morten in 1992 for 50,000 people). He formed the Liberator DjJ’s with Aaron Northmore and Chris Knowles in September 91’ and started producing his own records in 93’ for their primary labels Stay Up Forever and Cluster. Julian continued organising illegal parties up until 96’ when DJ and production demands finally took over.

Julian formed 4X4 Recordings in 98’ in order to fulfil his love of percussive rhythm and push his unique and very funky tribal techno sound. 4X4 provided some of the first releases from producers such as Renato Cohen, Christian Varela, and Mark Verbos and has gone on bring releases from Leo Laker, Paul Langley and DJ Rush. Julian has travelled all over the world in the last 10 years and has headlined alongside many of the most respected techno producers and DJ’s, where his unsurpassed hard funked sets have put him in a category of his own.

2001 saw the first release of Artefact Recordings. A limited edition, jackin’ techno, visually avant- garde picture disc series. The first of which was licensed to Dave Clarkes’ “World Service” L.P. as the A1 vinyl cut.

Future projects of Julians include work on his first solo album “True Defective” which sets out to break the mould of any conventional techno collection. It is a concept album in the truest sense – a story is told from beginning to end, working as a film does with music, dialogue and lyrics. Finished and presented in an “art house” book. Be prepared for something very special.
