nice little list of records and cds here

Hey hey folks,

Its time to get used to the lists flowing thick and fast, as there is mountain of lists coming soon. More records than you can shake a stick at and many that where previously very difficult to obtain in the uk.

For now, here is a list of overlooked items that are very very strong releases and certainly may require your attention. J

Invposs8003 – simm – welcome – invisible/possible (cd - £7)
http://www.discogs.com/release/9769
Like a force of nature unto himself, MICK HARRIS comes with a lot of pre-established reputation. After his time with NAPALM DEATH, the precedent was set for attempting to push boundaries with an extremely malevolent undertone. His teaming up of his label, possible, with invisible run by MARTIN ATKINS (PiL, PIGFACE) in chicago carried on both labels commitment to dark industrial ambient, otherwise retermed as illbient, dark hip hop textures, and brooding dub. This made me chuckle to be described as BAD TRIP HOP, far from the music being bad, the sentiment is a voyage to a dark place through broken beat textures.
Eraldo Bernocchi has in the past collaborated with Bill Laswell, and here shows that he is very much up to high standard on his own as well. This is a very dark affair, ‘frozen chances’ really taking the pace down in its minimal tweaking and the dense dub frequencies used to suck you under. All in all, this is a walk through a morgue at midnight, it’s a horror-core hip hop album, but all the rappers are dead. It’s a major nod to industrial soundscapes, but with a twisted sense of collapsing hip hop rhythms, and then the textural synth tweaking over the top adds more grime and filth. Bliss!!

Dotcom01 – Dj Sueme – A Long Way Down – Dotcom
http://www.discogs.com/release/5470
Subheads own label of seriously wonky leftfield techno from their friends and masters of the genre.

Dublon01 – percy x/active service unit – from dublin to London – dublon
This D1 / pure plastic split release is a gem of smooth, string laden techno. The Percy x going for the deeper affair, but active service unit slam it out with tough rythms and strong emotional strings and drops.

FOCUS ON - ARCHETYPE:
http://www.discogs.com/label/Archetype+Records
HOT LABEL FROM KNE’ DEEP / HIGH OCTANE CHICAGO BASED PRODUCER / DJ, MIKE WADE.
This label is a diamond find for anyone who hasn’t found it yet. Pummelling techno with strong Detroit and Chicago feel. For those who dig the sounds of Robert Hood, Jeff mills, Chancellor. Probably a little tougher than they are as well!! Do not miss out on these, essential techno releases!!!

Klk004 – various Andreas Tiliander - Perfect Manner, Lod – Taylor, Tomas Jirku - One more chance, Tomas Jirku - Smooth operator - Klitekture
Stunning little release this, really really great tracks.
After Andreas Tillianders trip to Birmingham for Default, and prolific releases under many guises for many strong labels (mille plateaux, komplott, type, resopal) his individuality and his skills are well known. His opening cut is a great sonic assault, big strings and chopped, grainy feel. The definitive dancefloor cut of the release, though detail and impressive sound textures heavily reveal a long time has gone into the process.
Lods track is a dark granular, more abstract cut, moody and dipping more into a freeform style. the Jirku tracks are very impressive. The outer cut, with, not exactly drops, but dense feedback and a wonderful shuffled feel. And smooth operator is my favourite. Its not a dancefloor track really, its far too reserved in its own gentle way. But it just has a very strong little narrative running through it with the clicks and delicate edits that keeps your mind awake and your toes tapping. Very intelligent, and rewardingly unobtrusive.

All round a stunning release and keeping up the momentum of the label. look out for the previous releases.

B:cuts003 – Downliners Sect – The Pledge – B:Cuts
Splendid little electronica 3tracker from france on an offshoot from the drum and bass label BLOOM. With their drum and bass sewn up, its seems they must be keeping it very intelligent there, as this comes across as very diversely influenced, but never too much of one thing. ‘Collecting the connections’ is the most drum n bass style track on there, but even that skulks away in the realms of more electronic tweakery than rude boy antics. This is bukem in a bad mood, smooth but lurking in sinister manner.
Perpendicular is a jaw dropper. Lots and lots of styles gently merging. Jazzy elements are coming from electronics, but it never seeps over. Lovely broken rhythm pattern and nice movement to the bassline when it ripples along and drops. This is music for high class bars that don’t want a pumping rave every night of the week. Somewhere to retreat to where the music will stimulate but not overpower the ears.
The Pledge takes them that correct step for what they set out to do. Very abstract unusual rhythm for an a side cut if they where wanting to push that d’n’b side, but its clear that the electronics prevails. Spikey jarring rhythms smash against the melancholy dragged from the strings. For anyone who plays the more electronica edge of electro/breaks there is a secret track hidden in this. It’s the same track on +8 at 45. It gets it to the tempo you want and really kicks off!! J
This reminds me of FUNCKARMA, FUNKSTORNUNG, DUB RECORDS in its bold epic approach to its sound and confidence of execution. It’s a lovely sleeve too, with a wrap around sticker for sealed artwork, and very stylish artwork at that. A winner all round.
What they say:
DOWNLINERS SEKT - "The Pledge"
[b:cuts 003] / «Electronica abstract breaks & bass» Released June 2004
A1 – The Pledge
AA1 – Collecting The Connections / AA2 – Perpendicular 8
Downliners Sekt is the electronica/abstract breaks project from Chris Albero, Pere Sole, Fabrice Rizzin and Alex Cortes.
Downliners Sekt conceive a soundtrack directly inspired by the urban environment they evolve into.
It is a complex collective exploring the dissonant side of breaks & abstract electronica.

Cytrax023 – Geoff White – Nevertheless – Cytrax
The glitch meister. Geoff white has rapidly risen to a well established name on the glitch circuits, and if the response to his recent album on GHOSTLY INTERNATIONAL under the name AEROC is anything to go by, then this album will be lovingly received. Back from the subliminal depths of ‘VISCOUS SOLID’ to that dubbed up 4/4 glitched up bliss he has acquired the reputation for. Those lovely processed clicks and liquid synths talking to us in dub. And very deep dub it gets down. So delicate, yet so omnipotent in its special content, and still with a washing of electronically processed sound bytes to glitch away and keep an element of rhythmical mischief.
A gorgeous gatefold sleeve caps this off as a splendid package, the artwork is wonderfully detailed and pixellated. The lucky purchasers of the first 1000 pressed receive a free colour poster of the artwork that is slipped into the sleeve.
With his edit label lining up for another round of high quality releases and remixes 2005 could well be his year.
