reasons for playing a tune

Recently, at free party, it was just turning into daylight, and me and a couple of m8s went to chat with some people by where the dj was playing, as one of my mates knew him. we were just chatting to him, when he dropped fat as ****, and i mentioned that it was a wicked tune id been caining a lot as well recently, etc. to this, he replied that he didnt really like it, and that uberdruck's productions were 'sketchy'. this really p1ssed me off, not because he said that about uberdruck, cos every1's entitled to their opinion, but more because why the fcuk was he playing it if he thought it was that sh1t!!!
imo, you should play a tune because YOU love it, not just because you know it will please the crowd.
i know theres a big debate about uberdruck at the mo, but i started a seperate topic cos this is relevant to all tunes, not just uberdruck.

as a metal dj for the uni i play stuff i dont entirely like cos its what the punters want to hear but as a dance dj id only ever play stuff i love... mainly cos i aint gonna pay the £8 for tunes i aint a fan of tho :)

what i mean is, yeah, so maybe you drop a couple that you dont personally rate as tunes that you think are as good as the others in your set but you know others will like, but this guy blatantly sounded as though he really didnt like the tune! why buy it in the first place! if i stopped loving the music i play, i dont think there would be a reason to play it any more.

i often playout a full set of earlier NUENERGY stuff and other similar labels of freeform/trancecore...
now to me, 'cos i used to play em 100% of the time and my finer musical tastes have moved on a bit, i do do a bit of a groan when i play em... purely for that fact that i've heard em 1,000,000,000 times before...don't get me wrong, i love the tracks so much, it's just with 100s of other quality vinlys lying around, i do ask "WHY??!?!" when i'm asked to play that set...
but for those that don't get to hear that style of music much, it goes down oh so well and it's for the partiers i play the music for, rather see them jumping up n down then let myslef have all the fun...

i play music i love,theres times when im doing a gig and ill have to play slighty different than i prefer but that doesnt mean i dont love what im doing

i play the tunes i like because there is no way i would fork out 7-8 quid for a track i dont like.
Plus i cant really do my best when im mixing with tunes im not into. I cant get into it like i do now.

I don't think you can buzz off the tunes you play unless you really love them. I've been down the road of being a commercial dj before, playing cheesy crap and it just wasn't the same - although it made me money, I felt like a two bob prossy at the end of the night.

Play what you want to play, don't ever compromise.

I only buy and play what I love. It's a matter of me getting my self booked at the right venues to play to the people who also love the style I play so we can all have a wicked time I don't believe in playing to the popular demand... I want to transmitt and be received by the people who want to listen to the music as it makes sense or clicks something in there brain which makes them think "yeah... this sound is amazing... feels so right"

It takes a lot of discipline to step forward and make a stand by something because you believe in it, espcially if your on your own.

I always wonder how it must of felt for Mark & Mick to stick to a sound for so long and stay true to it back in the earlier 90's of helter skelter. When Mark & Mick were comming in to the scene it was a lot easier to make it big (I think!) than it is now... so fair play.

fair play... sorry if I was making it sound like you would of had to do less to be big if you were starting out in the past than if you were starting now. I know you've truly given everything to of achieved what you have achieved and cause of that effort and commitment you will defo go down in history as being a legend I will be telling to my kids...

surely the reason anybody plays any form of dance music at a club or party is for the sole purpose of dancing, what kind of dj would u b if this wasnt the case?????? there are lots of ways 2 get the crowd going, but ive played at several places where the crowd cant c u, so the only the only weapon u have is the vinyl in your box. now if you been bashing out tunes that u r feeling but the crowd clearly aint, then you got do whats nescessary 2 get the place moving. i have several if all else fails tunes, ive heard this millions of times, and theyve got a bit less exciting for me and people love em and thats what its all about. :lol: :lol: :lol:
