Claude Young
American DJ / Producer Claude Young, has played an integral part in electronic music in Detroit since 1991. He started his DJ career at Detroit radio station WHYT mixing live shows on Friday and Saturday nights playing an eclectic blend of techno, house, soul, hip hop and disco. Playing at local parties soon followed, where Claude defined his own unique style of DJing, taking influences from hip hop DJs and mixed it up with techno tracks. His sets soon had everyone in awe as his acrobatic deck skills and scratching (with hands, forearms, elbows, even his face) were leaving his peers behind in a trai l of dust. His talent behind the decks have built Claude into one of the most in demand DJs in the world today.
He launched his studio career editing productions for artists such as Kevin Saunderson and 430 West Records artist Jay ‘Vice' Denham. After learning from his friend and mentor Anthony ‘Shake' Shakir Claude started producing tracks for himself, and was soon in demand as a producer / remixer. After setting up 7 th City Records with friend Daniel ‘DBX' Bell , and later Frictional Records with Anthony Shakir, increasing DJ and remix commitments prompted Claude's move to London in early 1997. Claude has recorded for Tresor, DJax, Mo'wax, Soma, Studio K7 and Harthouse Records to name a few. He is also in great demand as a remixer and has built up an impressive C.V, previously the works of Gary Numan, Carl Craig, 4Hero, Sven Vath and Inner City have all been interpreted by him to great effect.
In 1999, Sony Playstation commissioned Claude to produce music for the game ‘Ghost in the shell' alongside Takkyu Ishino, Joey Beltram and the Advent.
At the start of 2001, Claude moved his own label, Deta Recordings to Glasgow , Scotland to launch his own club night called ‘True People. It was his first ever UK residency. The music policy is open, with Claude DJing house, electro, techno, hip hop and soul. The opening night saw people coming from as Japan , Belgium and London to Witness Claude at the decks for 5 hours. ‘True people' is a night for people who believe in the music, and not the scene that revolves around it.
Currently enjoying worldwide recognition as one of the finest techno DJs on the scene, Claude regularly spins in various locations around the world to packed clubs in his hectic DJ schedule, showing a consistency to believe in the music he plays in the this ever-changing fickle business, which is a rare feat in today's musical climate.
