cubase... the only method i could find on the net was using waves c1
compressor. but it only gave the bassline out one channel

If your ok with your bassline being in Mono cant you use the channel converter in soundforge to convert stero to mono and use the preset "Use left 100" (or right depending on which works)...

Just a thought of a way round it till you fix it.....

The fruity way loopdon showed me works really well and if your working soley in Fruity then its perfect...

But I been creating my basslines with midi tracks and soft synths in Acid 4 so its a bit of a bastard trying to export loops then pop em into the fruity slicer and side chain to a kick then re export again.

Does anyone know if theres a peak controller or simerlar plug to the one in fruity that you can use in Acid 4.0 to link a kick to say the waves C1 for example?

this is because u didn't configure it correctly, wait, i'll find some mor info on the subject (as i am a notorious fruity user)

look a the way you have to input stuff into the other comp i posted, i.e
left and right; i think one would often use sends as well

Unfortunately milesy is right.

The C1 can be configured to act on the signal sent to its right channel when the volume threshold is reached on its left channel. (ie pan your bass line hard right and pan your trigger (usually a kick) to hard left)

You just have to make sure you place a mono plugin after it in the chain. I like to use ohmboys predatohm to distort the bassline and mono it at the same time always good for a dirty bottom end :twisted:

P.S. Using a mono bassline will actually benefit the mixing and pressing process aswell and is recommended by alot of people for obvious reasons.

Had a quick go with this thing last night but couldnt get it to appear in my plugins list in Acid but think thats down to Acid 4 not being VST friendly, Fruity it worked straight off though. Will have another go tonight coz it was late and was squinting at the screen...

Anyone seen or played with Acid 5 yet? heard its got better/propper VST support, anyone know anything on it?

Try TC Native effects. There is a compressor and also sidechainer in the pack. Both are easy to use and I'd say it's the best way to sidechain anything with anything....

If you're in the market for a soundcard, the creamware ones have compressor plugins with sidechain outputs that can be routed up to duckers or gates (including an interesting freeware plug for it I found recently called "Da Chopper" which acts like a MIDI note-on controlled ducker or gate...good for pretending to be Squarepusher, who apparently makes a lot of his glitch by stabbing at the bypass button on his DAT player). I should experiment with the sidechain-ability actually...

Opps I have that db package installed already and been using the other plugs but not looked at that one... And they def work in acid so I may have some luck this evening!!! cheers for the info...

Some sequencers have crap automatiion that makes it un reliable but I've done it before with stuff instead of compressing things, never tried it on a whole track but I really don't see why not. Copy and paste is the best thing computers have brought to the world...
