clipping tracks

i don't know if anyone already knows this, but my friend told me a tip. i get a lot of clipping on my tracks and my projects are in 16bit, but if i up it to 32bit float, then clipping is gone!!!

not quite sure about that,

things don't have to clip in 16 bit, either. 32 bit leaves you with more headroom, that prolly is the explanation.

they dont have to clip, but i found it easier to do this compared to readjusting all my levels. maybe im a lazy git :lol:

clipping always means that the computer is cutting out the amplitudes that it can't register.

so while recording, always keep the volume / noise ratio optimal.
and don't overdue compressing.

shit, when i run my tracks throught my hardware compressor, i make sure it hits red, then it sounds nice and phat

yeah i ****in hate any sort of clipping. If you want distortion use a distortion unit you get more control an it sounds better.


in terms of redlining a hardware compressor i wouldnt really recommend it, your only puttin extra strain on your compressor, an monitors

Perhaps it's just me, but the clipping in my version of Cubase (plain SX) is actually a lot better than clipping in audio progs used to be. I was thinking they might have built some analogue clipping algorithms in or something?

Clip occours at what ever bit rate u work... yer digital limit is 0db u get more headroom with more bits but still yer ceiling is 0db!

yes. If it's way up in the red, make it not so. That's why it's red. It means STOP!! because your track is clipping.
