Hello chaps, I've bought an Alesis 3630 cheap for the sole purpose of modding. Now, the problem is getting the components is a bummer in the UK but some dude in the states has agreed to send me all the components for (wait for it) $150 (about £80). This, as you can imagine, is no small sum for a bunch of components. Unfortunatley I have the electrical know-how of the average tree-frog (sic), so O was wondering, is this a fair price for good quality, hard-to-come-buy components? Secondaly, I've heard some good stuff about modding the 3630, but is it worth it? All in all I'll have spent about £140 on the project, and that figure includes the Alesis 3630.

Thanks in advance
John

Ive seen this before. i used to have a 3630 and had a look at modding it, in the end i decided it wasnt worth it... but the 80squid for the components?

First thing to do is get on to your friendly electronics supplier. From him/her get yourself 3 Burr Brown OPA4132PA quad op amps and sockets for same. A pair of THAT 2180 VCA's, a pair of THAT 2252's and sockets for that lot and what could possibly be the most important part, a 1 amp 9V a/c power supply.

Its hard to find prices in the UK. So i cant really help you yay or nay with the prices. Seems a lot tho for just electronic components. They are analogue and analogue can be expensive... i think?? anyone?

Well, I've checked out some other kits and found some extremley usefule forums and sites:

http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4363&highlight=3630
http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=210&highlight=3630+mods

and the kits usually gor for about $130 (around, say,£70) so I don't know if this guy's putting a sly $30 mark-up. What I'm effectivley paying for is te service of having the components sent to me, as they're pretty hard to find, and unless u know ur buisness its hard to tell whats a good substitute for an obselete component.

If I can get it done for about £60 I'll be happy, as the total price I'dve paid will be about £120.

If anyone has any more info feel free to post, otherwise I'll post the reults of the mod once I've done it
