Am I going deaf or are kick drums in techno less pronnounced and less punchy in techno at the moment. A lot of stuff at the moment sounds more rounded and less aggressive. I was particularly surprised at The live Dave the drummer set recently posted. seems warmer.

probably comes from comrpession

maybe people have understtod that its useless to compress a track on the recording as anyways the music is played through compressors in parties

sometimes those compressed kicks without any punch sound massive on a big system! i remember a few full-on Chester Beaty tunes on 'phont' that didnt whack until played on a big system.....

it must be good to produce a tune knowin its goin straight to the clubs!!

what an odd topic? pretty big generalisation there to give any answer with substance behind it, there are simply far too many records about to be able to say "yes, kick drums on average are weaker with no bite" and really not expect someone to come along and laugh out loud...

i hear records all the time with huge kicks, and i hear records all the time with more subtle kicks, really depends on the track and producer

strange one that

haha don't know about that, but one night i cam home very pissed, about 3 am i decieded to do a mix just using the headphones, recorded a 90 min tape. finished only to discover that my speakers and mian mixer was all on and my mix had been blairing out at 1,000,000 dbs pissing every one in the house off. hahahaha     my mum and dad didn't speak to me for weeks

i remember once listening to a few tunes on the hifi with my headphones plugged in, i whacked the volume and bass up, because my headphones didn't have enough low end rumble. when i had done, i unplugged my headphones and turned the hifi off.

Now no problems so far, except i had my hifi set to wake me up in the morning, i'd forgot i'd turned the volume and bass up, so at 9am, the whole house was shaking with techno, boy did i jump up out of bed
