The Hacker
Michel Amato aka The Hacker admits he often listened to The Ramones while writing his new album. Besides an intelligent use of minimalism, you will not find any other link with these New York punks. The Electroclash that had appeared with Miss Kittin is gone, the rhythm has changed, evolved with his influences twisted into a unique, sharp but smooth sound. More accessibles Leftovers from EBM here, New Beat there but always dance oriented even when mixed with his typical cold use of keyboard.
On "Flesh & Bone", the first single of the album, the velvet voice of the American Perspects (aka Le Car) emerges on top of the dancefloor baseline. "Traces" is a meeting between the ethereal voice of Mount Sims and a cold Kraftwerk. Miss Kittin is there "of course otherwise there would have been a domestic argument" says The Hacker. The princess of vice puts a freaky voice on the psychedelic techno "Masterplan". On the other instrumental tracks The Hacker shows his evil side, reminiscent of raves and hardcore with "The Brutalist" or "Village Of The Damned". But we find he is more than that with a Tim Burtonesque "Electronic Snowflakes" or with the end track "Sleeping Machines", a little ambient and woolly opera.
Everywhere there is rage, a dark rigid sound that contrasts with the welcoming dreamlike themes. "Reves Mecaniques" sets a new vision for techno. When the club becomes a den of romanticism.
