Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could suggest a quality harsh sounding hardware compressor? Around the £250-400 mark. I currently have a focusrite compounder and a dbx166, but need another that will pis on these two. Heard drawmer are wicked and the ivory series?

the 1176 plugin for uad1.

i know it's software, but it does piss all over my hardware compressors (which include the 166xl). it can get very crunchy/distorted.

ive only ever used 2 hardware compressors, one was a behringer at a college ( absolute rubbish), and the other a drawmer, the drawmer sounded fatter than a fat thing

The ivory 5021 looks really nice and seems to be widely used, then again the drawmer stuff is too

Never really got into the ivory stuff ... thought that the software things were much more useable a lot of the time.

You want mono or stereo for your money?

apparently the ivory2 5060 sounds fatter than all the other ivory units (don't know why though. maybe different valves or something). Check out the article in future music issue 149 if u can. :)

Check out the joe meek sc2.2 with the added 'dark mode' button.

Probably the more expensive the better the componants. Lookin for a stereo compressor really.

it's a 5051 that's in the rack here...so maybe the 5060's wicked :)
