vst plug-ins (recording plug-in movement)

does anyone know how to record the movements of knobs with
vst plug-ins, i can record knob movement (excuse my language!) with vst instruments by taking the tick away from sys-ex, but how do you record plug-in movement?

on the mixer channel or even on the plug/Vst i press W... press play and tweak away... stop when u r donne. go back press w again (2 stop writting automation), press R (read autom.)... and voila!
