For me it was a double header really with Don Diablo - The Sound Of Fear/Greetings From Mars

TBH i didn't even know what genre of dance music it was until about a year after buying it, all i knew at the time was it sounded absolutley pounding.

I purchased it in 2000 & whilst admiting not knowing the origins of Hardstyle inside out i would expect that these 2 tunes are surely some of the first to be released under the guise of Hardstyle.

you know, if you asked me what was the first hardstyle tune i bought i'd be stumped cause at the time it wasn't even called hardstyle. if you're meaning that type of 'bassline', i'd probably say hennes and cold. if you're talking that type of gabba edge to things, well hmmm it would have to be something via hitland, cause they were the innovators of the whole thing imho.

Going of the "baseline" side of things Mark when talking about Hennes & Cold are we talking Tracid Traxx releases ?

Still calling them Hard Trance myself :eh: not that it really matters what box we put it in, afterall if it sounds good then that's enough for me

Ive had a think about this, and I bought 2 tunes that at the time I knew I liked but wasnt really too sure on what the sound was, or really too sure on why they didnt really fit with the Hard Trance I was playing at the time....

Joshua Hiroshy - Over 2 times (Gas)

&

New Energy - One Turn (Stik Trance)

I had produced music similar to hardstyle previously and was introduced into it by a local hard trance dj who played a few hardstyle tracks.

So i bought some records on line, and For me it was an order consisting of:

Psyman - Oxyde (Dance Pollution)
Hard Boostok - The Begginning (Nu Rulez)
Jimmy the SOUNDS - LOGICO (sigma)
Supermarco May vs JTS - No Limit (Sigma)
Deepack - 100% (QDANCE)
Psychick - Judgement (IMHS)
Hacker - Tiger (wicked)
Deepack - Here's Johnny (QDANCE)

I dunno if this would qualify as "hardstyle." I'd never heard the term when I picked up this record (not sure it existed). But, the track "Crowd Control" on the NITRE record on Cenobite Records sounds very much like some tracks that people call hardstyle. Some good tracks on that one. I love the F.T.W.A. acid track on it.

Yeah, Hennes & Cold early productions I guess would be earliest hardstyle purchases. Then again there's all sorts that come close. Think mine first proper hardstyle purchases was early Technoboy stuff, mainly italians anyhow. Brain Ovulation was first gabba sounding track I can recall really (under the hardstyle wing).

one of first HardStyle records that i bought that was actually categorized as hardstyle was Pablo B vs TheQuakers - Fire....... but then if you class old Tracid stuff as Hardstyle then it's got to be Hennes and Cold - Second Trip, Derb - Derb and Ard n Jorn 16...........
