the "is joey beltram the father of hard techno" tangent on the "local" thread made me wonder what tracks got people into hard techno...the possibilities are huge, so maybe people limit to 5 or fewer?

...for me those would be:

F.U.S.E. - "substance abuse"
jeff mills - "reverting"
joey beltram - "energy flash"
surgeon - "badger bite"
red planet - "journey to the martian polar cap"

HOLD ON::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

All the trax you've all mentioned are unbelievable --------------------

Surely this is subjective ??

I could mention so many.

But the fact is UR and Belgium really created hard techno.

Again, subjective hahahahahaha.

Keep listing your faves ;)

Fantastic topic.

It`s not about who created it, it`s what got you into hard techno.
I skipped the whole roots of techno and came in via harsh industrial electronica, ebm, electro, metal and industrial.

Autonation - sit on the bass (RNS)
Tricky Disco - Tricky Disco (warp)
Lost - technofunk (perfecto)
Charles B - lack of love
zsa zsa la boum - something scary
Almost anything on hithouse especially problem house, meng syndicate and holy noise

and yes, its an unfair thread as there are so many records that deserve proper credit but.....hmm, maybe i'll get another username and sneak on later with some more....

yeah, i meant this as more of personal list of what hard techno tracks were the most important to everyone, rather than a "who started hard techno" thread...that one got beat to death recently ;)

A good percentage of hard techno today traces back to Mills and UR, definitely.

Hmm, it's interesting the relationship between hard techno, hardcore and Belgium... then you've got Acardipaine... jaysus, this is hairy stuff :)

Most influential for going to parties... and really getting into techno that would be somthing like discipline... (beyer)... or bitches from hell.. (krome..) really used to be into the swedish stuff a couple of years ago...

Making me wanting to start producing would be something like Olga and Jozef...(the tracks on PVC) and Dj Boss... ( his more offbeat style.. though I loved his work on KneeDeep..)

Hmm in terms of first getting me into techno

LFO - we are back
Misjah & Tim - Access
Empirion - Narcotic Influence [****ing TUNE!!]
Slam - Positive Education

But most influential, in terms of shaping the sound I love the most, it's gotta be Landstrumms Brown By August LP, if pushed for a specific track, Tension in New York

Its more of a label thing for me
I have been influenced and first started buying techno labels like - Drumcode - Compound and my fave label still Tresor

Erm I cant realy think of one perticular track at the moment.
Maybe is it called "The South Operations ep by Slobadn on Compound (I think thats what its called,im shit with record names)
or shit whats the name of the Headroom LP on Planetrythm.
Or maybe Surgeons "Intro"
T Krome-Woodcarvers nightmare on Korb
And James Ruskin-Version on Tresor

All tracks that spring to mind
