right..... *cough cough*

:hmm: In my "window of Hard Trance" which is kinda 1995-2000 there really was only Mark and Mick playing this stuff in Britain at the big parties i.e. Helters, Slammins etc (where i was getting tape packs from)so at the time there was no-one to compare them with. Both of them played similar tunes, tho very rarely the same ones i think, but have different styles of playing them.

People go on about M-Zones mixing being poor, but imo its shit hot! and very individual. No feckin about just straight in there, no long beat matches just cutting across tune to tune on a lot of occasions.

Any no-one can fault his tune selection :nono: and i would even go as far as saying his sets are, on a tune selection basis, better than Mr EG's :pale:

I probablyhave gone way of track, or maybe was not even on the right one to start with  but thats my opinion folks.

And big up to State for getting a discussion thread started.

love the way m-zone mixes in an out of each tune quickly wouldnt say his mixings shit hot tho sounds good when he beat matches but thats when he does ;) an be 4 any 1 starts thats just my opinion his beat matchin could be better but his tune selection is always awesome

he used to pull of some really sneeky cue points back in the day, really good at blending sequences together. some of th beatmatching wasnt allways great but who gives a funk, and saying that some of the loose mixes sounded really good with the tunes he was using sometimes.

i dunno about his mixes these days as i think hardstyle is ridiculous so i dont listen to mick anymore but back in the days of quality trance music he definetly put together some brilliant sets.

The beauty of an M-Zone set is that Mick will play only the best parts of tracks. If that means just playing the first 50 seconds, then that's all he'll play, which leaves very few dead parts of his sets. Full on from start to finish...

M-zone in my opinion is a ****in unique DJ, hes seem to play exactly what i wanna hear and sum of his mixer are spot on.I love most of his sets even his hardstyle ones because ot the TUNES he plays.**** skill as long as is near as damit in the beat matchin and phrasing dont bother me,its the tunes i like and the buzz they give you.If you go to a club listening just to critises then its gona reck the night and the set. Granted since ive been DJing ive notice small things in sets but thas only when ya listen loads of time on tapes n that, really i couldnt give a shit should just enjoy the set.Shouldnt really compare cuz where gona get the odd few people bumin certain DJ's
M-zone for me dose pull off top sets and produces and has produced sum top tunes, we all know who he is and lets not forget how he got there ;)

cool topic

Don't know if I'm veering of the subject but this is my opinion.

M-Zone is still with out a doubt one of THE finest DJ's ever

Had I not discovered M-zone around 95, there is no doubt that I would never have become the Trance fancatic that I am today.

The first sets I heard by him just blew me away. People can say what they want about his mixing but I personally couldn't give a f**K.

His track selection is second to none. I listen to a lot of stuff nowadays like John 00 Fleming, Yahel, Talla, Guy Salama, Kai Tracid etc and while these guys are shit hot, no one comes close to Mick. If only other DJ's could put a 1 or 2 hour set together with so many amazing tracks dance music would probably be far better off for it.

RESPECT to the M-ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mzone is the reason i fell in love with old skool hardtrance. If you had of asked me who mzone was or what old skool hardtrance is 3 years ago i couldnt tell you. But my mate played me Dreamscape 28 mzone and that was the starting point. The first three records i heard on the end of that tape was

D.a.f.y.k to mass in orbit connect to heaven

I had never ever heard this type of music before but with each tune i could picture myself in front of a big stack at night proper having it. The build up with each tune on this tape is incredible. I no this is only my opinion. But i dont think a better selection of tunes could be put together.

i have to say that m-zone is/was the business, absoltely excellent, but i haven't seen him play for about 8 years! but back in the day, absolutely no doubt he was the bomb-he always played the freshest tunes, and could really build his set. when he used to play at dizstruxshon when it was at howden, a load of us just went to see m-zone and noya (another resident, who was banging out the trance even before mick-a true legend!) and went for a chill when the happy hardcore business was played.

so, in short............yes! BUT noya was just as good back in the day (possibly even better-controversy!)

DJ M-Zone is an absolute legend. IMO his tune selection is the very best and no one else's comes close. Above all I respect M-zone for staying underground, unlike Mark.E.G who can be seen playing at events such as Gods Kitchen these days!!

Respect to the M-Zone!!!

mick has always been two steps ahead of everyone else on the trance circuit - which is whjy he doesnt play so much trance anymore cos hes looking for the next new thing - never standing still. His sets are always spot on, like some mentioned previousley - only playing the best sections of tunes. i love getting vinyl that i know mick has played only to hear that the track is 4 minutes longer than i thoguht cos he'd filtered out the mediocre sections! ive never had the chance to catch him live ive either had to leave early or passed out which is gutting but those old sets are still on constant rotation today - its as addictive now as they ever were!

m-zone doesnt play better or worse sets than anyone else - he plays M-Zone sets and no one else can imitate that.

bang on, i agree....

must say, the best 3 m zones sets i heard for construction of sets were the 4th birthday, tomorrows world 1997, the WEMF 1996 set and generally the early dizstrucxhon sets were all par performances

the best selector of hard trance/gabber rave was dj fergus in my opinion. any set u listen to, he built it up every time, and the cut mixing was awesome.... every track was an anthem which is why i rated him higher than mark eg and m zone. fergus generally stuck to the higher 160bpms and 170-180bpms..

classics.... post your fergus sets if u have them :)

each to their own mate but ive heard some terrible cutting techniques from him. To be honest his sets even though filled with some classics never built it up as much as mick or mark. Always loved his first tracks tho. Had a comedy element to them.

Still a good dj tho but never on mick or marks level.

Agree with dave about buying mzone tunes that were longer than 50 seconds. When he played 'new force' at human nature skelter he mixed the next tune in before the cheesy break which ruins an otherwise spot on tune. Same as 4th bday set at vibalite when he played dj cracks 'another dimension' wicked build up but dougal like cheesy break ruins it a little.

Btw - anyonme know that tune with the sample ' i have the strangest feeling' on the 4th bday vibealite set..amazing tune.

M-Zone is a pure legend, Not afraid to try something new unlike certain other DJ's where 1st tune is an anthem that everyone knows and then the rest of the tunes were all anthems also. i always perfered to her something new and this man did it all the time.

As for Mick himself what an easy going character 1st met him up in Inverness at a night put on by one of my mates, had a good crack in the chippy about meat pies LOL. As for him hitting me over the head at Time & Space with a UK44 White Label Promo, well what can i say i didnt even know he was playing that night and I was well pissed off till I seen who it was :)

Agree with whats been said.

I dont think anyone on here would be listening to hard trance had not ben for mick and mark. They started a trend and pushed it forward.

Shame there are so many bandwagon jumpers to spoil things.

Still that is never gonna change.

It make me laugh to hear people saying love hard trance and u ask them if they like mzone and meg, and they reply,"who are they?"

They have not got a clue

Yeah Phantom DJ, I know exactly what you mean. I was doing a music production course at college (all the folk into the course were into real shit like hip hop and Drum and Bass) and in one of the classes, we had to play music that we liked. After playing a tune by M.I.K.E , I played a track from an M-Zone set to let them hear some Hard Trance. One of the twat's on the course started laughing and when I asked him what was so funny, he said that he didn't realise that anyone listened to "Hardcore" anymore.

Felt like smacking him in the face, the cheeky little C**T!!!!!!

 i know, theres alot of that type of atittude up here sadly, well i guess its everywhere, innit.

And then theres the folk who are supposedly into the hard trance scene and have never heard of the likes of Mark EG and M-Zone. :eh:  And think that hard trance was invented post 2000 and anything before that is shit  gets on my wick that.
