is there any test software you can download for your hard drive and test it, thats what i used for a seagate one i was having problems with, it then found hundreds of bad sectors, so im sending it back as its brand new

Good shout.

Download "Ultimate Boot CD"... it has just about every diagnostic utility you could ever imagine on it, for hard disks / memory / BIOS / motherboard etc., plus loads of other stuff....

Ultimate Boot CD has them all on.

Though, admittedly, it might not work for Apple Macs.

Norton DiskDoctor (from Norton Utilities) has a media check option. And there is also TechTool Pro by MicroMat which has a large number of hardware check options, including hard drive integrity and RAM. You'll get more detailed information from those two than you will with the Apple hardware test CD.
