What are some good vocoders (hardware or software)?? I know a lot of people have different preferences but I'm looking to get that old robot sounding sound.

Orange Vocodas quite good from what I can remenber. Had a play around with the vocoda on a Krog MS2000. Sounded realy funny! Theres one on Reason 2.5 but i cant get it to sound like a real vocoda, its just good for adding fequencies to the sound.

I just got the Native instruments Vokator, man that one is dope! It has a ton of different synths sounds and even drum loops. You should check it out.

I have the orange vocoder but i think this one blows it away.

Vocodas are great on certain drums. You can use the vocoda to boost frequencies and give drums differant tones and harmonys. Its well worth messing around with. I would try the Orange vocoda, I think its great.

The standard vocoder in Cubase is quite good at making that robotic sound you talk about. It's a bit of a hastle to get it to work, but once you read the manual and understand it, it makes a cool robot style sound for voices.

y

Vokator is much much more than a vocoder its a all in one (synth/fx proc/vocoder etc)

(although obviously the outdynamics of the Vokator is the vocoder sound)

and its really cool

I know very little about software vocoders, but...

Agreed on the Nord Modular - you can't beat the Nord Micro Modular for price/awesome ratio! The vocoder is very flexible and rules.

Stay away from the Electrix Warpfactory. It's a cheesy DJ toy.
