werd up blackout. here's some info on our guests at sequence next week...

Mark One - Dj Set (Planet Mu, Rephlex)

Mark One began producing music at 17 years old, originally exploring the intricancies of drum and bass before moving into the darker territories of dubstep and breakbeat garage. Heavily influenced by Oris Jay, Mark steadily developed his trademark bass-heavy, mechanical sound and soon his music began to turn heads. When one of his earlier tunes was dropped at the legendary London breakbeat garage night 'Forward', things started to move quickly for Mark and he found himself accepted into the wider scene. He's since progressed through the ranks to become one of the best dubstep Dj's and producers in the UK, with a nomination for best producer at the 2003 Sidewinder awards.

Mark has had releases on Polydor's P Records, Soulja, Tempa, Texture, Southside, Contagious and most notably on Rephlex's essential 'Grime' compilation. He records and plays out alongside production partners and MC's, The Virus Syndicate, fusing elements of hip hop with dubstep and drum and bass. Mark along with his MC team of Nika D, Goldfinger and JSD have taken their sound across the UK and Europe playing at many high profile events including this years Sonar Festival in Barcelona and the One Nation Festival in Germany. Rephlex recently took Mark One and Plasticman on tour to the USA where they totally rocked it. Most recently, Mark recorded and put out his latest album, 'OneWay' through the Planet Mu imprint to critical acclaim.

Milanese - Live (Warp Records, Arcola)

Milanese burst onto the scene in 2004 with his debut single, Vanilla Monkey on Warp offshoot label, Arcola and a follow up longplayer, '1 Up' on the mighty Warp Records in the same year. It's hard to pin his music down to one particular style. He personally describes his music as a mashup of jungle/garage/ragga/techno/electro, twisted robot music that sounds like a computer game gone horribly wrong although this description belies the fierce, raw agression of his rumbling beats and the sinister emotional tone and sophisticated panache of his production.

The native Londoner, now based in Birmingham (where he lives next door to label mate Chris Clark) is also a gifted musician, with particular proficiency in trombone and piano (13 years of study under his belt) and has now progressed to making his own unique instruments. His true forte however, lies with fusing elements electro-acoustic music with mad beats and bass... with a total emphasis on the bass. Milanese spent his university days studying electronic music (although this may have simply constituted a lot of raving...) and was also a regular Dj fixture at squatter parties in the 90's.
