Does anybody else agree with me when I say "techno is more trancy than trance" ? When I say that, what I mean is when im dancing to trance, the breaks and breakdowns take me out of a trance like dancing state of mind and I have to "stop and start". Yet with techno, I can loose it, get into my dance trance and be somewhere else. Therefore, if anyone else has experienced that, would you say that "techno is more trancy than trance" ?

Nah, you don't get what im trying to say. When techno rolls on and on and on and on and on, don't you find yourself "off somewhere else" just chugging along nicely?!

I totally agree, and understand exactly what you mean. With techno it is easy to completely lose yourself, hours can dissapear in what seems like minutes, once I get locked into the groove time just sort of dissapears. That to me is definately a trance state.
Trance on the other hand does not have such a continuous groove to me. As you say, there are lots of breakdowns and buildups and its all very stop and start, so its hard to get in a groove and stay like that for hours. I will say though, that old - dare I say it - psychedelic, goa, style trance was very much more trancey than what is called trance now. I haven't heard anything of that variety for years though.

I can remenber the first time i heard U R - knights of the jaguar. It was been mixed over some realy hard techno and it wasnt out at the time. The way that filterd synth was blipping allong with those drving percussive beats for what seemed to be ages was amazing. It was a realy meaningfull expereiance althougth I was completly mashed of my tities at the time.

I know exactly what you mean, back in '92/'93 before I really knew what was what, I would have consider the really repetitive techno to be Trance... My illusion was shattered pretty soon after, when I heard all the early Harthouse stuff... was into that a bit, couldn't really get with it once it went all goa, possibly because I lived in Wales at the time and had it rammed down my throat at every party I went to...

Yeah, I always go into one on the dancefloor when it's techno playing, whereas with trance it's stop, start, get bored, wander off to see what else is going on ;) Psy trance is different though - still very much something you can lose yourself in for long periods at a time, probably because of the endless thud of the drum and chugging basslines...

Pendragon by any chance ?
thats weird, i have been saying this for a while now. the main reason some people dont like techno is they say its too repetitive.
personally, if there is a wicked groove, i get lost in it and dont want that groove to end. i like the repetative nature of techno...

techno puts you into a trance like state. you care for nothing else apart from feeling every single part of the music.
we took our friend to a techno night and he is used to dancing with each other with beer etc. but when i took him the jam and the whole crowd were so ocused on the music and facing/listening to the dj, it was like an tribe. dancing to their leader.

There is nothing like being a bit "under the influence", hundreds of like minded people cramed into a club, all chugging along to some serious techno, all off on one in that mad "trance like state"...Wicked! Im glad you know what I was on about when I said "techno was more trancy than trance" now! :thumbs up:
