Hey techno peeps, I'm getting into my techno more and more now, using it as my harder stuff, anyone suggest any bits that I should take notice of?

I like my Kay D Smith, Kramer, Bailey and Glenn Wilson and a bit of Tom Hades etc etc

Thanks

So many forms to choose from corbz. Just look thru some of the posts. They will tell you what to look for.

I like my funky, but then again i like the acid, and then again the percussion.

Oh theres so much to choose from. I love em all :D

I just like hard, clubby techno that is well produced and goes somewhere, rather than just loop all the time...

I bet people who are really into samba and shit see that kind of thing as total sacrilege....

y know actually i've done a few tracks with marco lenzi and anderson noise from brasil
now marco who's italian, loves samba / latin influences in techno
but anderson just hates them.
basically in brasil young guys drive around in their cars with samba blaring out very much like we have our guys driving around with drum and bass or r+b (or techno sometimes)
but the thing is that when these guys drive down the street people start ****ing singing along 'cos they all know the tunes 'cos it's traditional.

so grabbing a bit of it and looping it up is just going to wind some people up
'cos they just see it as really cheesy.
i can see their point although once in a while it works for me.

anyway that's brasil not really very african is it but you know what i mean.

fair play if you're into it an that, I just had this mad idea though of people in Brazil or maybe africa even sampling up loads of old gaelic tunes, folk music and that, and wacking it in with their contemporary music... I mean I'm of the school of sample anything, if it sound good, it sounds good, but this thought amused me....
I've never been one for sampling tribally loops or anything like that, gimme some hardcore nord modular synthesis any day... or sampling pop music & mangling it severely....

davethedrummer
27-07-2003, 08:54 PM
yeah right
sampled irish pipe music
or country and western
or big brass band jazz

would it sound so horrible???
maybe maybe not.

you never know until you try

what I mean is it might sound shit to us, cos it's like our indiginous music, but to other people, it might sound really cool... Like when you've grown up with it around... like does anyone remember that horific trance track from years ago with the bagpipes? or that terrible track by The Grid? really awful...

Yeah there was a lot of that. A girl friend of mine was attempting to chat him through a friend of mine that could speak Portuguese, needless to say it got very funny...
