Technolab celebrates it's 1st birthday in style with some more of the UKs top techno talent.
Martyn Hare aka Emetic
Being influenced by the likes of Aphex Twin to Jeff Mills, Martyns sound is a hybrid. He tends not to follow one particular path of production; his style refuses to be pigeonholed. Is it New Rave ? or could it be Techno Bass ? This crossover, eclectic blend is carried over to his DJ sets, which combines the soulful with the downright dirty. A truly banging hard funk mix!
While living in Leeds, UK, Martyn promoted and was resident of 'Audio Science', an underground, uncompromising dance night where some of the leading names in techno regularly appeared. It was through these nights that Martyn first started playing out his own dub plates, which grabbed the attention of a number of labels including Glen Wilson and Mike Humphries' 'Punish' imprint (leading to Martyns first release - ‘Armageddon') and later Ben Longs 'Potential Recordingz'. Under Potential, it was Martyns first two releases (‘Bitchin' and 'Hare of the Dog EP') which gained him worldwide respect, including a “Top 5 Tunes of the Moment” review in Ministry magazine and numerous plays on International Radio. With major releases on ‘Tronic' and ‘Recycled Loops' as well as managing and producing for his own labels 'Tremors' and ‘Emetic'. Now DJing and performing his Emetic_Live and Classics_Live sets across the world and having the top voted mix on dj-sets.com for nearly two months, as well as numerous sessions for BBC Radio 1, Martyn Hare is quickly making a name for himself in all the right places and is definitely one of dance music's rising stars.

JAMIE BALL
Born in ’77, Jamie began listening to electronic music in 1982. Despite being literally obsessed with the sounds of Bronx electro and hip-hop for a good portion of his youth, he only started messing around with musical equipment when he reached age 14. Not being a fan of the ‘gangster’ rap style that emerged in the late 80’s/early 90’s, Jamie began to listen to more experimental/extreme music around this time - which in turn opened the doors to the industrial/techno sphere.
Jamie began producing techno in 1993, and in ’95 ran the first parties in Edinburgh (Risque) to bring forward thinking techno to the masses, featuring artists like Oliver Ho (Meta) and Andy MacLaughlan (Figment).
After producing and throwing various parties in Scotland over the next few years, Jamie launched Turning point recordings in 1999. The label went on to become an instant favourite with the likes of Dave Clarke, Oscar Mulero and the Space Djz.
This led to Jamie playing various shows across Europe in support of his material, garnering more respect and fans along the way for his unique sets and approach to mixing - Hip hop flair and style applied to intense, hard and jacking techno !
Since then, Turning Point has continued to grow as a label and Jamie has launched a sister project called ‘CYNIC’ where he produces under the pseudonym The Cynic. The first release on this label was a HUGE bootleg of several classic techno tracks, and once again it’s been receiving heavy support from all the major techno dj’s.
Also in the pipeline is a net-only label - ENEMY. This will feature Jamie’s more extreme output along the lines of hardcore/industrial techno and grind, as well as work from other producers also looking to bomb the boundaries ! The first release from ENEMY is out there, by the elusive MISANTHROPE... Try and find it if you dare !
Throughout this year, Jamie is planning to up the payload with releases and remixes scheduled for various labels as well as more shows abroad with artists who are soon to debut on Turning Point…

Support in the main room comes from Technolab debutant, Johnny Allen + residents John McLean and Twandy.
The 2nd room provides an alternative to the onslaught, with Kenny Clark and Leon pumping out some house, and Davie Clark playing a bit of everything from electro to breaks, as well as some live sections thrown in to the mix.
All this for £7 (members) & £9 for non members. Look out for the free mix CDs as well!!
