THE BAD OLD DAYS?

this is just something i was chatting with dave spinout about, thought id see what yous guys reckon.
we were remembering the days when it seemed like EVERY german release was amazing, all the tracid traxxx and overdose tunes got bought and caned by everyone, and nowadays it seems like everyone is disappointed by most of the stuff they hear. but we decided to listen back to a few things, and we discovered there were more than a few ABSOLUTE SHOCKERS that at the time were seen as quality stuff. so my point is, were we merely looking at the german scene through rose-tinted glosticks because it was such a new thing to us then? im not dissing german trance in any way, but is our hankering for the tunes of old justified?

i can see yah point mate.

i was pleased a lot more easily a fwe years ago with stuff, although i could still appreciate the blinders! looking back at my record collection i can pick out releases that were just ok, nothing particuly special and that now i wouldnt of bought.

i think the problem lies with the fact as its progrssed people have had to come up with moer ideas so they arnt just copying the the releases that did well so this has meant leaving a certain sound in favour for change and moving forward.

i definetly dont buy as much music as i used to and its down to the fact i dont find as many impressive releases these days.

but this is because a good proportion of music being released isnt really moving on, i click on a new release, listen, then come up with 3 or 4 tracks allready in my posession that either sound similar or did it better the first time.

what i have started to notice is though the releases that are good are the ones that are moving forward, daring to be that little bit different and using original ideas.

i think weve hit a little dip in the trance scene were producers are realising that they cant churn out the 10th carbon copy release as there just not being bought and are going to have to start workin.

hopefully this will lead to a better quality of music and a larger weekly record order in the near future :)

i honestly cant remember many bad tracks from the old days, perhaps i have subliminaly forgot the bad ones, or perphaps i was just easyer to please but i find a lot less tracks grabbing my attention these days.listening to some of the old stuff i bought it isnt ass impressivee as it was.

i do belive that 96-99 was a phenominal time for trance and perhaps because it was a new sound and was full of fresh ideas a lot of the stuff was genuinly good and now that a lot of the ideas have been used many times people are growing tired of some music these days.

Yeah i believe we did look thru tinted glasses, but the fact is nowadays we are more clued up then we were back then.

Practically all of the euro dance music now is easily accessable and therefore we are hearing more and more tunes.

I would still like more access to the belgian stuff tho so anyone who knows a site let me know please.

haha! there are loads of tunes i used to love that i wouldn't touch with a barge pole nowadays! i dare say in a couple of years time i will look back at the hardstyle of now and my face will go :oops:

ive said this before but 97/98 hard trance will not be beaten, in my opinion, although i do hope that i am wrong.

the quality from that era was unbelivable(97/98) all the tracks seemed to have so much character, and for me less can be said about current hard trance, it seems to have run out of ideas, which is a shame, and i personally feel that its popularity is its own downfall.

you may think what you think, (some of the old classics sound poor now) because as music evolves the productions get tighter, and mixing/mastering techniques become more prominent, through many years of experience, but experience dosent buy art/innovation.

There was a time when I just used to buy every record that had a Hennes and Cold style bassline. Didn't even listen to them, as soon as I heard the heavy bass I bought it!

There aren't that many that I don't like from around that time though, perhaps thats just nostalgia.
