Coming to play Electric City this Thursday for his debut Irish show is the
Kompakt cult favourite, Justus Kohncke. He is a verifiable pop star in his
native Germany with videos on heavy rotation on the music channels and
regular day time airplay sitting comfortably alongside his more leftfield
leaning as part of the Kompakt team with release on the original Kompakt and
the Pop and Extra spin-offs. He's a DJ, live-act, producer, remixer who
works as a solo artist and is an ex-member of the two cult projects
Whirlpool Productions and Subtle Tease. He was also the mysterious producer
behind the blinding Chic remakes on the Science label from the past couple
of years.
As a DJ Justus Kohncke plays an unmistakable style between hard-drinking
barrelhousediscopop and popsong acid with surprising laptop stunts. His
discography is longer than the night and more multicolored than alcopops
with various albums on ICI, Ladomat, Kompakt and innumerable twelve inches
and remixes. His style has been called Techno-Schlager in the past - a nod
referring to a kitsch style of German pop music but his style ranges from
the aformentioned Chic edits to the RollingStones-sampling 'Shelter release
on Kompakt and the hard-chugging track 2 After 909 which was a massive club
track last year.
Truly, he is one of the original characters performing in the world of
electronic music today. This event promises to be one of those special
nights ala the first appearance of Alexander Robotnick - do not miss out!
