The new minimal to me sounds very precise and sharp as though most of these tracks were programmed with just VST instruments. In the mid nineties most of the minimal tracks had more of a analog edge giving a different feel to the tracks. Its not a good thing or a bad thing I just thought Id share that with you for a new topic of discussion...

Hi Analog,

So what you are saing is that in the genre of the modern minimal there are no artists producing with analog studio's??

i do feel vst opens more opportunities easily and quickly, but producers are taking this for granted and the sound is suffering due to lazyness. but you can still get a good sound of vst if you have the patience that you would need with analog.
everything comes in circles and i'm sure before long the good tracks will shine through and the parp will be pushed to one side

u can be as lazy on a hardware synth as u can on a vst

and vice versa. its down to creative lazyness, not kitlists.

I think somebody needs to take a gander at James Holden. Proof that soft synths can sound even more analog than the real thing.

I can't say anything about his mix cd. He's not the greatest DJ, but some of his productions have excellent analog programming work. I am with miro though...the digital/analog debate is pointless. But yes analog, I do agree that all the computer processing has made things sound too professional/clean and I think it takes away from that rawness that the old stuff used to have. I always feel like I have that problem with the harder techno I make.

never got rd of mine ;)

the middle ground has to be the best.. the sequencing of pc power triggering analogue dirt makers ? i think so :rambo:

i read something in the liner notes of one of his cds bragging about how he was helping to open the door for purely digital artists, but to be honest, i thought the tracks he was talking about sounded a bit dull and flat compared to similar proggy tracks by other artists. this was a couple of years ago though....

I'm happy twiddling my analogue knobs. Who needs drums when squeltches and wamps can keep you going!!!!!!! ;o)

You can make digital sound analogue.
Time is what it takes.

you can make analogue sound digital.

Yes, both are tru.
Not many people admittedly can make digital pc stuff sound analog, but they are the people who have never heard or used analogue, so they don`t really know what characteristics they are going for.

I think Autechre said, if you can`t make PC stuff sound analog these days, then you don`t know what you are doing.

i dont understand y a lot of people are so mad to make everything sound analog anyway. digital has its own characteristics that sound nice aswell. i think a mixture of both can work well.

or a mixture of none
