After reading Henry's statement about his music being abused, I thought about giving a few rules how to deal with these kind of situations.

Ok we'll have to keep in mind once a release is on vinyl or CD, you can't stop it being converted on mp3 for downloading. That's the price we have to pay now.

But to protect your music before it is released or even if still doesn't reached the promo stage, Ã*t's totally under your own responsability.

If you want someone, or some people to preview your music, just make short sample's of 1 or 2 minutes on minimum quality mp3. That means just for listening and not worth keeping it.

It's even beter if you make an mp3 of a rough / unmastered version on very low bitrate. You can also do the whole track on mp3, but keep it bad quality...

If people like it giving you enquiries, make some good agreements before giving the quality mix version.
The only people you can trust is yourself, and on the second place your distribution and / or masterhouse...

But this will only work if all producers will work this way. Also learn from the more experienced guys. I won't call any names, but they still work the old way and never have any problems that their tracks can be downloaded before it is released.
