Hewitt with a stunning victory at the Nasdaq-100 Open on Saturday.
Henman beat the Australian 7-5 (7-5) 6-3 for his first win in nine meetings.
His victory ensures him a place in the last 32 of the Masters Series event in Miami and a match against Dominik Hrbaty or Simon Gruel.
The Briton, 31, first took on Hewitt at Scottsdale in 2000, losing 6-4 7-6, and last played him at Cincinnati in 2004.
