Launch of New Label Gotham City Recordings

New York, NY-May 9, 2006 –DJ/Producer Becka is pleased to present the launch of her new techno based label, Gotham City Recordings. Distributed globally through Beatport.com, it will be an online digital sub-division of NYC’s already successful Gotham Grooves label. Taking a slightly different approach, Gotham City Recordings will be about pushing a wide variety of styles – ranging from glitchy minimal sounds, to the heavier beats of tribal, to the harder, edgier sounds of techno.

As a result of growing demand in Europe Becka will also be relocating to Spain in June of 2006, with Gotham Grooves and Gotham City Recordings label manager, Agent Orange. In honor of their move, they leave their mark on NYC with the first release, the Departure EP. Each track on this EP has a very unique distinct sound from five of the most respected artists in NYC today.

Mark Verbos’ prolific recording career, has involved producing, remixing, and releasing his own tracks for prestigious labels like ReLoad, Wavescape, Planet Rhythm, Djax-Up Beats, Bpitch Control, Memory Boy, among others, with a bunch outputted through his own label, Simple Answer. A NY transplant from the mid-west, he has worked as an engineer with Chicago legends Ralphie Rosario and Farley Jackmaster Funk and more. He kicks off the EP with Idle Hands, a track reminiscent of the sounds pioneered by artists such as Regis and Surgeon. It’s 143 bpms of pure dark and powerful techno, guaranteed to satisfy even the purist connoisseur.

Track #2, Gostosa Pra Caralho, by Dan Physics exclaims, “Porra cara! (Damn dude) Olha esse festa?(look at this party)” “Ta cheia de gatinhas! (It’s full of cute girls)”. Fun spoken word in Portuguese intertwined with synth lines give this track an old skool R&S style Mentasm flavor. Dan’s previous releases on such labels as Hidden Agenda, Remains, Weave (Germany) and Creme Organization, have run the gamut, of sound and styles. For almost 4 years Dan worked along side 2 Techno legends, Frankie Bones and Adam X at the world famous Sonic Groove record store and label. 2006 is shaping up to be a big year for him, with projects to be released on labels like, Audio Textures (UK), Things To Come (NY/Berlin), Industrial Strength Records, and Tension Works Records (Sao Paulo), and Missile Records.

Beckaand Agent Orange bring on the bass for a dark, detroit flavored heavy groove in track #3. Their most recent collaboration is titled C-Mode. Sexy silky strings glide smoothly over glitchy beats. Ethereal airy sounds round out the track, making this the deepest, moodiest most mental track on this EP.

Brooklyn gangsta Alek Biotic, another well-kept U.S secret, has released on respected labels such as Bush, Kazumi, Extraball, Gotham Grooves, and has seen his tracks appear on compilations such as Carl Cox’s Fact Australia II. We’ve borrowed his newly created alter ego Montaz, especially for this project. Closing the EP, his ground-breaking “Vanilla String” is not your typical techno track. It starts off in 4x4 time signature, but later switches up into broken beats, breaks and experimental sounds. It cunningly dances around a steady tempo in the middle, only to cut back to the 4x4 beat again. A track that is very good for djs who like to transition between genres in their sets and maintain a unique cutting edge flow.
