Tax on door money

Has anyone else come accross this? The club I run a night at has recently had a letter from the Inland Revenue to say that door money must be taxed. So what I make on the door has to be given to me in cheque form!!!!!! WTF? Does this sound like a blag to anyone or is this really the case?

Happened to me when I was at the Uni (my first venue) had to to go through the accounts etc, so the be venue took the door and then I got my money about two weeks later. Nearly ****in killed the night that. (those of you who have done a night on shoe string/rent cheque will appreciate how shite this is).
