i have some studio equipment if u are interested in using it so i can learn from you pm me, i am in swansea, equipment is as follows,

2 303's (one is mint, other is a bit tempremental
virus c
supernova 2
909
roland alpha juno 2
alesis 3630
boss se70
mackie vlz 1604 16 track analog mixer
beringer multicom
tc electronics m300 effects
4 tannoy reveal and sub 16
midi keyboard with pads
aphex 104
4 boss pedals (distortion overdrive etc)
pemtuim 4 3.4 ghz 1gig of ram
sound card: emu1804m
all the software u can get including
all the waves plugins
cubase 3 (payed for)
reason 3.4(payed for))
acid 5
logic 5
fruity 5
soundforge 8
lots and lots of samples

i just need to learn from someone cos production forums aint helping.


lots of other plugins
i am no good at sequencing or percussion thats where i need help
i use cubase as my main daw

first of all take some time to know the equipment.
you have a lot,
so you need a lot of time...

get starting!

is it music making in general your having a problem with or just techno / sequenced stuff? Do you play an instrument?

Sit down and use just one instrument for 4hours. Then add another one.. and so on and so forth.. take a leaf out of autechre's book... KNOW each instrument backwards.

Identify stuff that you like, try and copy it.

cheers guys, i think i need to learn one bit of equipment at a time,
ive never played an instrument or dj'd i just heard a 303 about 7 years ago and since then i have been buying synths and just ****in about,

it might be a good idea to get rid of a lot of stuff (both software & hardware) as I think it could hinder your learning... I remeber when i was just starting out I just had 1 machine for ages (MC-303) then I added a Alpha Juno 1 year later.... then something else 6 months later... took a long time to build things up but I learnt things really well that way... also software overload is a big killer for a lot of people.... "all the software u can get" would stop me stone dead in my tracks....

youve got loads of sequencers on that list as well.... which one do you find easiest to use? Id just stick to one for now to be honest...

basically id

1) clear the harddrive completley

2) install 1 sequencer & audio editor like Soundforge

3) pick a favourite soft synth that you have got and JUST use that one (learn it inside and out)

4) Install one drum sample player like Battery (or whatever)

5) install a handfull of FX plugs (or maybe just use the built in SX ones)

5) Sort through your sample collection & weed out all the crap... sort the rest into folder for easy access (this took me 2 full days but was worth it)

SELL

1 of the 303's

Either the Virus or Supernova

Maybe the Alpha Juno

Some of outboard if your not using it

I think the more streamlined / simple you make it the easier it will be for you to learn / have fun.
