this could frighten a few people.. dont turn it up too loud. also best done on speakers rather than headphones.

i could hear up to 17.7khz anything after that was inaudible.

also dont pay attention to the click when you play each one.. its the tone you need to listen for.

got to 19.9khz but it was painful/annoying to listen to, but not as annoying as 17.7 and 18.8khz

17.7 for me..
but I wonder if its limited by my speakers here in the office.?
I'll have to use my monitors at home to see if it makes a diff

You are a dog
Or maybe you are a mosquito, you certainly can't be human.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 21.1kHz

unfortunatly It's flawed.

If you turn it up on 22.1 you get some kind of lower frequency overtones which sound like aliasing or something.

it depends how high a frequency your speakers go upto, are they hi-fi speakers ? pc speakers ? monitors ?

narr it must be the speakers cos i can hear 16.7 pretty clear, dont have to strain my ears to hear that one

dan the acid man
24-08-2006, 04:36 PM
yeah, it will be your speakers, they probably don't go high enough, the pc speakers here at work are the same

this got me to wanting to test out my speakers and hearing...
so i came up with my own test.

it goes for 4Hz to 24kHz and it's a wave file, not mp3.

www.patrickdsp.com/audio/4Hz-24kHz.wav

it's not a steady stream, i kicked up a few notches where normal hearing lays. other wise this wave file would be way too long to share.

cheers

I have just gotten over a cold/flu and it left my ears a bit ringy so I will try theis test when they stop.
At least I hope it was the flu that made them ringing..??

the test is wrong. only babies are supposed to hear anything above 19 kHZ. I didnt come any further that 14kHZ last time i did a real test...and now i can hear 21.1...

Also these are mp3's...the compression from WAV to mp3 probably causes a so called mirror frequency, which is a lot lower than the actual tone. That's the thing we are all hearing!

Do you know what frequency is where in the track? I stopped hearing it at around 46 seconds.

I hear it clear until it sharply disappears for me at about 49.5 seconds on Patrick's test. Once again though.. I'm at the office. I wonder if the effect will chage on my Genelec's @ the studio.

Not quite true.

Upper threshold is between 16khz-22khz for adults.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearing_(sense)

I've got a big fat dip in my mid/high frequencies.
I blame the soundsystem in "The End"
Now I can't hear conversations when it gets crowded. Started lip reading again...

14-15 khz yeah... But that's in a real test, with no control over the volume...
If you can put it up as loud as you want you start noticing the tone at a certain point, but not really hearing it..
