I asked Carola about it last time I saw him and he said, "Oh, he isn't doing much right now." (well...no sh!t, that's why I was asking)

Does he still play out in Europe much? He used to make some really cool older records. The first couple Southsoul's were nice as well but they got kind of predictable/stagnant after a while.

In 2006 he made two eps (mp3 & 12"), but I would like to hear some new ART releases, like that label.

he did some superb stuff earlier on in his career definately, and i "Pain 23" was a kind of unofficial anthem at Atomic Jam for a good few years. Usually comes back with a few releases now and then, but yeah he did get a little predictable

Defo. His early Gaetek stuff was great.

He took a break for a while as his father was sick, but his eventual return was unfortunately a bit of a let down... pretty much no change to the style he had been pushing 4-5 years before that.

Still love Art 9 and the 1999 ep he did on Drumcode.

Also C&G Southsystem stuff with Carola was rough.

Yep, you're right. Pain 23 didn't stand anywhere near his best work. It had a bit of get up and go alright, but didn't have the same edge as other earlier stuff.

Didnt care for the Pain 23 as much as I did his Planet Rhythm or his Art material especially.

they all sounded exactly the same to me.. tight loop, filter break, kick back in.. repeat til snooze lol

top notch but with no width of style.. then again, ya could say about a whole heap of producers.. spesh Sims who's trax i foookin adored..

heard him dj once in belfast. 150 minutes of Gaetek records.. really let down. he was tight, but.. went nowhere if ya catch me.

true about the same-i-ness of them tho... another favv of mine i had on Zenith (lost it since) but was an equally funky loop with a piano in it... then did the whole filter up n down break kick back in... still loved it tho. i miss it now :(

yeah.. i had several ARTs.. had 2 of 006 i liked it that much for doubles.

Funny I just asked the same question on my blog. I saw a guy that looked like him having dinner last weekend. Didn't go up to him though.

"Adagio will be a more sophisticated crossover between electronic and microhouse stuff"
OH NO ANOTHER ONE :D
(

gaetano's stuff was never anything "moving techno forward", twas just crowd-moving clubby techno. i liked some of it though, conform 3/14/15, pain 23, drumcode 19/22,5. early southsoul stuff was classy techouse with no ambitions, which worked miracles on the floor.
always liked him more than carola, less than beyer.
i think 'concept k' from that kosovo compilation is the only track of his i'm still playing.

microshit....everyone........just everyone..............

The amazing irony in this is there's a mediocre sized micro label called Orac, which is the like the epitome of boring clicky clacky music. :)

He never made any mindblowing music but some of it was good and very danceable.

I saw him play a few good sets in Toronto over the years. :)

essence you were always moaning and yes, i gave it a listen, i dont like it ok, but i dont believe that so many producers are making it. its like "oh now i will start to produce this, i will follow the rest". i dont get it.

@ dustin, hehe you're right

ok i wont moan. long live minimal. hangover mode on. :hammered:

so many producers are making it and got into totally. rest can't miss any oportunity to say how much they hate it and how much it ruins techno.

You know how you see somebody and they look familiar and it isn't till later that you realize who it was? That was the case there. Didn't put a name to the face till later ;)

didn't he go through a stage of not turning up when booked to play over in the UK?
