What's the deal? I don't get it at all. Can someone explain it for me? I don't need an in depth explanation, just a rough overview. I keep hearing about scores on BBC international radio and am baffled.

its marked by how many cups of tea the spectators drink, and how many stupid hats the women are wearing.

its like baseball, you have innings, each sides balls and bats twice.

so say its england v australia.

the idea is to score as many runs as possible when batting, you can do this by hitting the ball and running to each wicket, each time you run to the wicket, you get 1 run, you can do this as many times as you like but if the balling side recover the ball quickly, you can get run out like baseball.

you can also hit the ball so it goes over the edge of the boundary of the field, and thats 4 runs, if it goes over the boundary without hitting the ground, its 6 runs.

so if the score was say 269 for 5, that means they have scored 269 runs, but lost 5 wickets (batsmen have got out, through either being caught, run out, or bowled out)

incidentally cricket is anything but boring and test cricket (the 5 day version snooch) is the best of all

if you're not into it you'd be best off watching a 1-day or 20/20 match though, they lack the subtlety of the longer game but don't take up a week of your time to watch

An old chef of mine was an avid golfer and used to have 2 golf bags. 1 for his clubs, 1 fake golf bag that had a keg of beer in it. You would remove the cover to one of the clubs and it would be the tap! http://presentpicker.com/ppp/product/after5/driverl.jpg

what a shambles that was this morning then.

our national teams are a disgrace at the minute in all sports, but that's what you get when we never seem to do anything about the future of them all

I wished they had played Monty from the start after what he's done! They knew what he is capable of!!

Tbh i don't know how much of a difference he'd have made to the first two tests as the pitches wern't conjucive to spinning the ball.

True but a good spinner can still do damage, especially in the 2nd innings - look at how Warney skittled us in the last innings of the last test.

Admittedly Warne is a different class to Monty....

Well nor is the WACA a wicket for spinners and he has taken 5 wickets in the 1st innings, not even Shane Warne has ever taken 5 wickets in an innings there.

The problem with having Giles is he is does not bowl enough overs as he is crap and the likes of Flintoff are relied on more.

Strauss should of been captain, Flintoff field placings and batting as been terrible and he should of been left to concentrate on his game.

DJsmallpaul

Flintoff's having a mear :grr:

dan the acid man
15-12-2006, 09:07 PM
yeah, he should be left to concentrate on his own game at the moment, too much responsibilty on his shoulders now being captain too

mate you cant say that replacing either giles and/or anderson with panesar wouldnt have made a differnece

between those two they took about 1 wicket for 600 runs (approx!)

monty got a wicket in his second over, 5 in his first innings and scored nearly 50 with harmison with the bat!!!! :mrmyagi:
