Constant shallowness leads to.......

I think much of the shallowness crept in to combat dropping sales, someone made the point here before that the acqusition of Picotto was an attempt to tap into a new market- a market that they needed to survive. I'm not down with a lot of Prime stuff but there is a fair amount I do like. Whatever people's opinion is of Prime this bankrupcy thing (If it is true) is certainly not a healthy development.

Are global sales declining that rapidly or is the advent of smaller specialised distributers affecting business alot more than we think...?

This is really bad news for a stuggling industry, but didn't prime's accountants see it happening a long time ago...?

OH MY GOD. Major news.

I don't care what ppl say about Prime, they contributed to the techno industry. Perhaps badly in some ppl's eyes (from talking to others about the whole sweden/tribal thing), but they distributed some of my fave labels so for me, they deserve a certain amount of respect. I also feel very sorry for those whom they never paid. Hmm..

I just feel the techno industry is in a mess. But hasn't it always been??

to whoever asked about glenn wilson, he goes through triple vision if I am not mistaken. As for Prime going under...it definetely sucks. But it really only sucks for the fact that my favorite labels, artists, and friends are getting screwed over. As for the company, theres been some trouble behind the scenes for sometime...or so I have been told by many people who have dealt with prime. I am bummed but at the same time I think something exciting and fresh will rise from all these recent distributor disasters. Who knows, maybe its all part of building a new scene!

Sometimes to build something to be even more amazing and powerful you need to burn it down first.

So who is still left?

Discomania, Intergroove, Neuton, Victoria Music and Web-Records.com right? Damn... the techno scene is really going through some shitty times. Anybody know whats happening with CPL now? From what I know they were working together with Prime on the German market.

There's Elektronic Music and the new Pure Plastic company in the UK, I'm not sure what Just Music are doing though. CPL is still in its early stages, think it's just like a new German outlet for Prime but that there will be lots of other non-Prime labels in there too.

Yeah but it's probably all old stock, and stuff Integrale weren't able to shift, can't see how it's going to sell now to be honest.

yeah, cpl were handling most of primes stuff in germany - but they have been sniffing round for quality new labels to p&d themselves because they knew the Prime thing was happening. My partner si has been talking to them recently about doing a joint label project with them and us, looks like its going ahead.. Apparently they seem like a really coolcomapny with a great attitude and some excellent ideas. Lets hope things take off for them..

A friend told us about this forum, just to clear something up, Harvey Lane who used to work for Integrale a few years ago, has started a distribution company up Veto Music Wholesale, the deal with the Integrale stock was part of the package deal, he has no interest at becoming Integrale Pt 2. And as for the stock most of it will be skipped. We have decided to support him (Rodz-Konez).
As unlike many distributors out there, he doesnt tell lies and you know exactly where you stand with him. A rare commodity in these bleak times.

it is quite a twist isnt it. there are people left to do some of a job, but from talking to people in the shops thay dont really want to rely on them.

there are other prospects on the horizon to, but as i've said elsewhere on this board the next few months will see the rise and fall of many seperate entities. there are certainly no major players xcept integroove left and they where always a nightmare to use when i worked in a record shop.

its a case of who people trust and who knows what is really going on and what people want. i feel confident that my own company will work as i have a massive back up from one of europes strongest and most influential manufacturing brokers so i'll be serving stuff to you guys for a long time to come. if not i'll piss off to berlin and work on the manufacturing side for them. i'm fairly confident harv will bring uk techno back again.

even old prime reps (must've been some of the first people to go) are starting their own tings. i think it might get messy after the falling of some major cogs in the machine, i know who i'd bet on to still be around in six months.

also, where are the prime guys?? reprazent!!!! take some shit like i did!!!

More Prime scandal!.

Last week Primes pay cheques to staff bounced, this leading to Office equipment going walkies down the fire exits. I would have found this quite funny if it wasn't so depressing!

Sigh

Prime Direct were set up a couple of months ago as a way to streamline Prime Distribution. All of the van drivers were made self employed and were allowed to sell other things aswell as Prime output. Then, Prime Direct stopped selling prime releases! and two or three weeks later Prime Distribution is no more ......

Alas, i mourn the loss of a long term friend...

``So, left is Triple Vison, Neuton & Intergroove. The big guys.

Actually there is tons of major distributors left additional to the ones you have mentioned.

In Belgium the legendary N.E.W.S distributor

In France Cyber and Kubik

In Germany EFA, ELP and soon to take over most of Prime`s most important and best selling labels Chris Liebing`s CPL Distribution.

Also in the Netherlands there is ID&T, Mid-Town and Moxx Music.

there is also a dozen smaller distributors in Europe who do carry some good techno-house oriented labels but these productions stay more local and are harder to obtain internationaly.

I beleive that Prime did not disappear because of low sales but mostly mismanagement from what I hear or the perceptions I got.

They accumulated more and more debts to many of their exclusif labels.

This about 2 years ago since we saw a lot of established labels suddenly leaving Prime for other distributors.

This was a sign and forcast of the end of Prime all-ready a long time ago it was just a question of time and when this distributor would cease to exist.

I am hoping that CPL Distribution will be able to run things more efficiently and become as succesful, and quality oriented as Prime was.

Looking forward to a new era for Quality Techno house distribution.

Peace
