Hi people,

I am trying to get a kick and bass sound to get a kind of industrial/schranz feel to a track (Robert Natus style). I have used tipps from the BOA studio masterclass which have been a great help but I still struggle to get this kind of sound. Can anybody give me any advice as to how to get this kind of sound or where I can get a really tough kick sample?

Cheers

Jason

Vengeance Loop Cds are the bomb when i comes to hard kicks, but beware a hard kick will overwhelm your track if not compressed correctly.

TRy layering kick drums, adding reverb as well.

I am still working on production masterclass part 2.

there`s a whole section on kick creation from scratch, and then effective compression for various styles.

Will be done soon I promise.

i have problems when doing harder stuff aswell i put lots of percs(for nastyness) multitype kicks, few basslines and as result i get somekind of hard minimal, yes minimal because it plays very slow :/ when i try to speed it up(bass or kicks) it sounds like cheap tech house

@Reakz: I have been doing techno stuff that's groovy AND hard @133 bpm.

I think sounds can breath more and simply sound bigger at slower speeds. Will only sound minimal if you want it to sound it that way. I think slowing down is the way forward! And there's always the pitch fader if you wanna play stuff faster.

That aside, please upload your attempts (as shoddy as you think they might be) and possibly a snippet of stuff you're aiming to do and i am sure people will be more than happy to point you into the right direction. No need to feel embarrassed - this forum is there to help!

I uploaded an example loop @133 bpm for you. Do you think this sounds minimal or to slow?

I hate to say it, but I've started slowing stuff down, you can still make brutally hard Techno at slower bpm, and you can use filthier sounds as they have a tad more room - don't end up swamping everything.

If you work a bit slower you can definitely get more of a groove into the track, everything just ends up being a four to the floor stomp if you make stuff fast.

Cool loops, the third ones my favorite, nicely dark and moody, closely followed by the second one. I think you might need to work on the balance in the loops a bit more to make the drums and bass a little more punchy.

Fat loops :)

How did you do/process the bass in loop 1 ?

Yeh just listened. It's very 'sexy club techno' to my ears, and yeh it is minimal (i refuse to not use vowles!), its cool but I wouldn't call it 'hard'.

Oh thanks mate, 'sexy club techno' is very nice to hear. I am flattered, i know what you mean saying it isn't hard but it ain't exactly handbag house, either. :)

Thanks again!

Its a cool track mate, sounds a bit like some of the stuff I'm trying to start making, check out my ''Funky Tech-House'' thread in the Production Files if you get a minute.

Easy now.
