I cant understand why dj's would want to tell everyone what they have bought, surely part of being a dj is keeping your records close to your chest, not telling everyone your shopping list!!

Know what you mean mate... I guess it's just preference aint it.
At least you can keep quiet mate and then know what others have and have not got, I guess...

its just my opinion piginabush. The thing is your playing at the candystore soon and if youve just bought them tunes and told people what you got there gonna know what to expect from your set. My view is keep your vinyl secret.
fair play - i've always been one to tell people what I buy or blag - i still will do cos I have to post tracklists for the radio anyway :)
But i suppose as a club DJ its slightly different.
What I am SERIOUSLY Against is certain people (no names mentioned) covering records and sleeves with stickers and white labels so nobody knows what the track is called when they ask them. That is just far too arrogant and the DJ should question his or her own reasons for doing such a thing. I have asked DJs many a time what tune he or she is playing and the majority of the time they tell me and I am extremely thankful to them, the ones who don't or cover up the sleeve with a white label are rude.
I was quite stunned to see a certain friend of mine do this back in Plymouth when I was after a tune name badly he would not say.
DJs who dont write playlists on Mix CDs are irritating but never mind.
Thats my opinion

You know I respect your opinion louk, but if a dj wants to cover a record that is up to them. A dj who doesnt want to give out a name of a record is just making sure that his/her sound is unique. I dont think its rude at all. Say someone liked your trainers and asked you were you got them from and you refused to tell them, its like I made the effort to find them so go and look yourself.

I always suspect dj's that rely heavily on keeping their tracks secret, it seems like they're trying to make up for lack of talent in mixing or something. If a tune is so hard to find and get hold of, surely it doesn't matter if you tell people what it is because theoretically they'd only be able to find it if they searched as hard as you? Trying to keep a track secret that is on sale everywhere and anywhere is a little sad.
I'm all for keeping things underground, but it's people who are going to exploit or people who have the power to exploit that things must be hidden from. Our music shouldn't be hidden to any regular person, even if they are into hardhouse. Everybody should be given the freedom of choice, things shouldn't be hidden.

fair point, but I aint just gonna play them tunes, got loads in my box that I will play, and still got 2 weeks to go so will probably have a couple of newer ones....
if you are there, just think to yourself "I knew he was gonna play that", smile and dance your ass off

think I was just in an argumentative mood that day piginabush!
i dont want to tell everyone what it called i may as well just give them the tune becouse when everyone gets it i wont play it anymore
Why? Because suddenly it'll be a bad tune? Because it'll be uncool? Because you won't sound cool if people have heard your tunes before?
Jeez in such an undeveloped genre I think we should all be encouraging the sharing and expansion of the number of people who hear these tunes. The more people playing these tunes the better! Maybe you want to remain exclusive, but blimey, its not as if the hardstyle scene in this country is full of copycats! Maybe if you went onto the Tidy msg board or Nucleuz and told everyone what you played, that wouldnt be such a good idea, but sharing a couple of names with a couple of DJs like this isnt such a bad idea is it?! You're not in direct competition...

Fully agree with you Vorheez mate! Besides Germantrance stocks up on most of the stuff anyway. Everybody on here knows their stuff. Its no secret to what labels to play and what tunes not too. So its pretty predicatble to what everyones buying anyway.
Doesnt bother me at all.
Just drop the tunes and make sure they go down.

They only like the cheesy hardstyle like the stuff that's on Nukleuz Black anyway. Honestly I think those two labels and the people who like them are well aware of hardstyle, but it's just too hard for them. I remember reading a review on the Tidy website of Hatshepshut - Far From Giza, they summed it up as 'just horrible noise with no tune' And the Tidy store sells loads of hardstyle, just that they're all into the lighter stuff, so they're not really interested. It's what i'm talking about in my other post - these guys have the power of choice because it's not hid away from them, and they chose not to play it. Hiding it away would be worrying unnessecarily, and ironically probably makes generates more interest in it.
