Even though theres a lack of events and nights going on at this time of the year I feel theres a lack of progresion through the nights too!! ie no decent warm up sets!!

It does my head in when you get in to a club and theres someone banging out Hardstyle or droping fat bass line after bass line when you know it cant get any harder!!

Dont get me wrong a Fat techno set always makes my eyes water but not at 10 O clock!!

What other peoples view on this!

Personaly I frive on building a set up and waiting for the dancefloor to fill before you start droping fatties!!

views welcome?

I 100% agree a night deffinitly should have progression to it, workin in a record shop and having diverse tastes means that i buy alot of varying styles within the trance and techno genres and i find myself aswell as buying peak time stuff, buying tunes with a warm up set in mind, and although playin a warm up set doesn't get u recognition for 'bangin it out' i do think it is a very important set of the night, one that needs to be done right cos at the end of the day this is the set that is supposed to be building the vibe for the night. On the other hand tho do people really give a ****? Do they just wanna hear the most bangin tunes all night?? I wonder sometimes?? **** me i've gone on a mad rant!!! Nuff said by me methinks!!

Alright Geeze!

Yeah totally agree with ya mate!! Its not hard getting all ya bangers out now is it first set and twatting them out to people who have come for a good night and then to be greeted to some fat bass line id rather hear about midnight! when the first tune of the night might aswell of been the last!!!

Also a good warm up set needs at least 2 hours min, if you gonna do it properly! or for atleast the next Dj to carry it on!!

I'm abit torn on this one.

Depends on the event really, if its only a club with a couple of hundred people in it I'd say deffo start off with warmup stuff an build it up. Coz it seems to take a while for poeple to advance onto the dance floor an get going.

But, if its a massive event like Slammin Vinyl with 2 huge warehouses with thousands of people who have just drove the ends of the earth to get there I want to hear every DJ playin his or her absolute most bangin rockin mind twisting speaker blowing material from start to finish. Coz you dont want to pay about 20 quid to hear your favorite djs play a nice a fluffy foot tapping set an after a long drive there's alot of steam to let off!!!

For schizzle!!! One of the best warm up dj's i've ever heard is dj Meri who used to play alot of warm up sets at the country club. But yeah, defo need 2 hours to build it properly otherwise u kinda have to rush it a bit!

Kinda agree with epedemic001 about the BIG events, but you still wouldn't put the dj Producer playin full on hardcore techno on first at like 8 o'clock it would be too much, unless its like a full on hardcore techno room then i dont think there is such thing as a warm up??? or is there???

True mate!

If your coming miles away and paying alot to get in your usualy 10 times more up for it so I suppose you just want it to kick off staright away and get a blinder on the go! but still progresion through out the night is still very important!!

I tell you what else I hate is when a big techno Dj or trance Dj gets booked in a Hard house inviroment club and gets put on after someone rincing a load of banging shite out when quite clearly they know the next Dj cant follow it coz there style might be more lighter!!

Not saying its the Djs fault coz it aint I suppose, but maybe the way a promother chosses the order of the djs!!

YEah couldnt agree with ya more Meris an absolute quality warm up Dj and the key to doing it properly is when knowing to drop the right tunes!!

God I miss those fat progressive funky rolling techno sets!

Im probably going in to it to much now but even a bassline drop in the first half hour of a warm up set dosnt really do it for me!!

sometimes the warm up dj has the hardest job as they have to get the floor jumping and ready for the main djs without banging it otu.
I enjoy doing warm ups now and again too as it lets me play more of my not so banging stuff

Im with you on this one 4Play and Mr Wragg.

The Country Club crowd was wicked to do a warm up set to, you could keep it at progressive till the floor filled up at about 11 - 11:30
then when the club was full... drop that bassline and the place went MAD!....
You never get this feeling anymore!

The C.C crowd was good cos they used to know what was coming....so you could play with them a bit,
But these days it seems like the south west crowd just want them basslines all night long from start to finish.

All this could be because we don't have an allnight venue around here anymore?????

P.S - Meri was the warm up king

Good shout!!

This is something that we at Religion believe so strongly about. We believe in a stuctured night and go to a lot of trouble to make it happen.

You can never upset the balance of the night by starting to soft but it can be upset by playing to hard/fast.

It always depends on wot time the headline DJ's can play but we try to stick to a structure in the main room like this:

Set 1: Breakbeat or slow Funky Techno
Set 2: Funky Techno or Minimal Techno
Set 3: Tech Trance or softer side to Hard Trance
Set 4: Hard Trance or Hardstyle
Set 5: Hard Trance, Hardstyle or Hard Techno

this is such a good topic to touch on guys  .... i feel very strongly about this, at the end of the day my hat goes off to the dj who`s style can bend and fit any time of the night, i think lighter techno and tech trance does the job lovely for the first couple of hours...stuff that gets peoples feet tapping and there heads noddin , personally i love warm up tunes and go out of my way to find stuff thats interestingly not bangin for my early slots... anyway nuff said!! ;)

meri definately was the king of the build ups :notworthy:

I was just talking to someone about this... I'm fed up of getting CDs sent through of just banging hardstyle or a set of hardtrance that could only be played from 12:00 onwards, there's only a few DJ's I know personally that bother to build...
