Dbit, born David Bitterman, began producing electronic music in Detroit’s burgeoning early 90’s techno scene. With a background playing guitar in rock and experimental outfits his intense interest in the newly emerging sounds of Detroit techno naturally led to a desire to produce and manipulate them himself.

In the late 90’s and early 2000’s Dbit was a founding partner and manager of two Detroit based record labels, Music-In-Formation and Live Wire Records, releasing chart topping vinyl by stateside techno veterans Tim Xavier, Andrei Morant, Kero, Dustin Zahn, Ian Lehman, and others, along side his own original works and remixes. A remix for Metamatics commissioned by the popular electronic music label Hydrogen Dukebox exposed Dbit to a new wider audience within the electronic music genres.

In 2007 following several years of traveling between Detroit and Chicago Dbit returns with his latest project for Chicago Based Zuvuya Recordings. The “Cosmic Calamity E.P.” is the latest release from the Zuvuya camp and features four original cuts from Dbit. The E.P.’s lead track “Prajnaparamita” is a chunky slice of minimal funkiness with glitched out meanderings and a monstrous 808 kick. “Mean Green Meme” comes correct with an old school techno feel, menacing synth lines, and a 5/4 syncopating rhythm sure to keep any techno DJ on their toes. The release is rounded out by two experimental ambient pieces. “Scordatura Capriccio” confronts the listener with rattling coils of rhythm and slippery textures suggestive of a clinical laboratory mind trip. “PeachMangolosophy” is a relaxed sonic journey into childhood memories that have been mutated and reformed over time.
