I'm just wondering who here is from or living in South America. I'm moving to Vina Del Mar, Chile for a 12 month stay and I'm not really sure what to expect. It appears Santiago has some pretty cool techno going on but right now the language barrier is an issue for me. I'm bringing a box of records and my laptop with me and hoping to continue djing and would like to hook up with any other techno junkies in the area. Anyone from her live in those parts? Anything I should know?

mods, if this is not the right forum for this feel free to move ok...

yo my wife is from santiago chile with folks in vina del mar. that is the trendy spot so i dont think you will find any techno there....

"sasha sasha sasha" is the mantra there i believe but i could be wrong.... you never know....

i just did a radio show for daniela haverbeck down there... she is the only person i know down there who even plays hard stuff.

but don't expect and you won't get dissapointed... better just to enjoy the outdoors and watch the snobs go by haha

thanks, yep I'm definetly going with an open mind. Not expecting much other than to improve my Spanish and discover what is supposed to be a very beautiful country. I heard Vina was posh like you say, but Valpariso and Santiago aren't too far away so maybe I'll find something going on there with techno. Hell even if I play once or twice I'll be ecstatic. Either way I'm excited to experience a change and I'll have more time to work on music while my wife is working (I'll be un-employed :). Maybe I'll finally have time to test out more of the wonderfull plug-ins in the BOA production forum...

Yup Vina is a little posh. But Valparaisso is the next beach to the south. Very cold this time of year, need a good seafood chowder.

In Valpo there is one place called Deck00 which is out on the pier at the northern end of Valpo called Mule Baron. They've had Hawtin and Villalobos out there a few times. In Santiago there is a strong little minimal scene. Check La Feria and the trendy afterhours house in Bella Vista. Tony Mass is a resident at La Feria. Miguel Tutera is another guy, had a few releases on Eukatech go see him at Fun Tracks record store at Manuel Mont station on the metro (towards Golfe direction). Also Tom records across the road more minimal specialists.

And then yeah theres Haverbeck and a few playing hard stuff. Hard to find, and the Chilean Spanish is a ****ing nightmare - but plenty of fun to be had and fun finding it. Saludos weon!

Why not think of it like this...

You are obviously a player and purveyor of Techno... if there is not much of this genre going on over there then you will be in a position that you can provide something different for the girls and boys to jump around to...

Even if their dance music scene is rooted around Sasha n the like you surely have a box that you can use to ease them towards the techno side of things, (not whacking them in the face with something deadly straight off)...

I don't know at all whats going on in Chile, and I dont know how hard you play, but I do know that there will be punters there looking for change...

Try and contact the lady that defmosaic has mentioned, which sounds like twould be very helpful to you..

You have 12months over there n you say your gonna be a man of leisure?

Hmmm... alot can be achieved in 12 months...:)

How's your collaborations with Marcus coming along?

Marcus is a busy school boy these days, and he's getting married soon. We got 1 tune done and then about 1/2 way though another... the one we finished is on my myspace page http://www.myspace.com/djjak
called "technical-difficulties". it's a little techno rumbler, I'll probably finish the 2nd when I'm in Chile.
