That's rich considering you paid £16.5m for Bent, when Johnson cost half that! At least Torres is proven at international level.

why??

bents proven in the prem and his goal scoring record for charlton was 1 goal in every 2 games!

that record speaks for its self!!

26.5 mil for a player the same age that didnt even score 10 goals last season who could flop like morientes?!? who may i add was free scoring in spain last season!!

it seams a lot bigger price and risk than bent

dont get me wrong he could be a revolation, but 26.6 mill!!!!

i hope he turns out good for you mate.....

you have to admit its a hell of a risk!! 27 mill!??!!? many strikers do flop in the prem

oh dear, apparently Torres thinks he's joining the best team in Europe...

speaking about his new club, he said...

"It's one of the best, if not the best, clubs in Europe."

he aint wrong, our recent record speaks for itself.lose the scum glasses and look at the facts.

My Spanish mate thinks Liverpool have been ripped off but think his style of play should suit the Premiership. He misses loads of chances apparantly also.

Esox Lucius
04-07-2007, 12:15 PM
depends if he means in european competitions, then yeah they have reached 2 finals in 3 seasons and won it 4 times in the past, but they arent the best club in europe as in the continent, although their fans like to think they are.

basslinejunkie

dont claim to be,much better footballing clubs about which u could claim to be the best such as barca, milan etc etc but if were talking success, which afterall the game is all about, then we are one of the best. the only trophy we havent won in say the last decade is the leauge, which not many clubs can boast.

going back to the subject ...

he scored 14 goals last season, dunno where i got less than 10 from

kai

No, but its the one that counts when your making claims about being the best - as has been said many a time before, you need to win that before you can claim to be the best in England, let alone before you can make any sensible claim to be the best in Europe.

One of the best I can live with, as coming in the top four in Europes strongest league every year and two Champions League finals in three years definately warrants that, but you cant be the best in Europe if your not the best in your own country.

As for Torres - think he's a good player (though perhaps a tad over rated) and I think he'll do well for you guys but not sure he's what you need - you've already got an abundance of strikers who don't score enough goals.

Have to say, good as he is, am glad that Utd haven't signed him, especially for that money. Think he'll do well but still dont think he'll solve your goal scoring problem, which is what you were in the market for a forward to do.

was he injured for any amount of time last season, 14 goals isn't enough for someone who's aspiring to be a top striker...

and bassline, it's almost twenty years now fella :;

Apparantly Liverpool are gonna sign Heinze also?

torres has taken a pay cut and turned down other more lucrative offers to join us also, according to sky sports and benitez.good lad.

it would be insanity for United to sell Gabby to Liverpool surely...

They sold Veron to Chelsea, must be an Argie thing! But yeah, 14 goals isn't too clever, though apparently it was £20m minus the £4.5m for Garcia, so not so bad. Da Silva scored 34 goals in 32 games last season, albeit in a weaker league. He's scored 7 in 12 for Croatia though including goals against Italy and England, plus he scoared against Arsenal at the Emirates... be nice to have a proper number 9 again!

Da Silva scored 34 goals in 32 games last season...

Now that's what we need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net, we were clearly missing a proper finisher last season....

Agreed that it was an easier league he played in but surely that gives some indication of what the guy can do, time will tell......

Hopefully Van Persie amd him will stay injury free and shoot down the prem next season! :cheese:

it was different with Veron, as he found it difficult to settle in the Prem, although he was nowhere near as bad for United as some idiots would have you believe, on the other hand though Heinze is proven in the Premiership and would without doubt strengthen Liverpool's weak squad :;

wasn't it that Kenyon who made the Veron deal anyway? c**t!!

be interesting to see how Da Silva fares, could be a good partner to Van Persie...

basslinejunkie

hahaha,weak squad.

us and chelsea had the best squads in the prem last year,no doubt.

kai
06-07-2007, 09:53 AM
Yeah thats why when your reserves were called on towards the end of the season as you preped for the CL final you kept losing games.

Admittedly we faltered as our reserves had to play more games but nowhere near to the same degree.

Big squad or not - when your big players are missing there is no replacing them as Chelsea showed when they missed Terry, Joe Cole, Czech.

basslinejunkie

we had 2 players for every position last year,we had strong cover for every position.did you???? no.so therefore we had a better squad.

Numeric
06-07-2007, 10:46 AM
strong cover? not too sure about that, as kai stated Liverpool could hardly get a result in the Prem towards the end of the season when your second string players were called upon...

basslinejunkie
06-07-2007, 11:13 AM
because we had a whole team of squad players playing, not just 2 or 3.who'd never played together as a team either.

french_og
06-07-2007, 11:56 AM
Liverpool had crap right and left midfielders and crap forwards so not sure about the cover there.

basslinejunkie
06-07-2007, 12:22 PM
gonzalez, pennant, bellamy, you could do much worse for cover im sure youd agree...........

french_og
06-07-2007, 01:15 PM
If they were cover for 1st team quality players yeah but they were 1st team regulars themselves as there was nothing better in their position. Gonzalez maybe the exception but there was nobody better than him playing well on the left anyway.

If Liverpool sign a quality left and Right midfielder then i would defo say thay Pennant, Gonzalez would be good cover.

Traxx

I think most South american players take a season to get going in the prem. TO be fair its not like liverpool have anyone better on the left anyway. Think with a injury free run in the side he would of done well.
