View Full Version : This week I have been mostly listening to...

Si the Sigh

...old releases! I'm sick of the new stuff. I suggest you dig these classics out for a little listen:

1) Quantifier & Kektex - Pulsar / Kektex - Pull The Strings #16

Utterly superb tracks. This release wouldn't have been out of place on Routemaster. Love the side with the old skool hardcore riff. Simple almost minimal tracks, where not a lot happens but you get sucked into that groove.

2) Kektex - Piston / Bugswat - Routemaster #07

Both sides are amazing, but Piston takes the biscuit for me. A proper, proper fat tune! It's all about the percussion, and spaced out sounds. A real sonic soundscape, and mixes a treat with my next choice...

3) Kektex - Lock / In The Forehead - Routemaster #05

Lock is the obvious choice for many here, but in my opinion the flips the better track. Seriously dark and fu*ked up. Atmospheric as hell, something thats really missing from todays releases. What happened to the druggy, out there, haunting sounds?

4) Lawrie Immersion - Slut Fu*k / Butt Fu*k - Smitten #09

Freaky, fu*ked up, out there, Lord Lawrie, blaa blaa, etc, etc...

5) OS/2 & Underground Cyber Movement - Vibrate - Boscaland #37

The Chris Liberator mix of this is to die for. If I am right, I believe this was released around the same time(ish) as Typhoon & Cats Eye on Prolekult, again 2 more completely out there and superb tracks from Mr Liberator.

What have you been listening to this week so far?

kektex side is probably my fave acid track ever.. very few tracks bring back memories like this... maybe "lock" but its a close call.

Almost forgot, I've been hammering these as well...

6) TD5 - Criminal Damage - Off The Wall #12

The Chris Liberator mix of this is ace. 'Nuff said! Subway Life is a cool track as well.

7) Chris Liberator - Spectrum / Skin Rattle - Bag #??

Quite early release from Chris Liberator on the uber hard to find Bag label. The production is quite weak, but the ideas in the tracks are cool. Quite trancey in places, quite like some of his early TeC stuff.

Not listened to that for ages. Will have to dig that out later. I really liked Gravel & Facelift on Cluster as well, and the early releases that had 303's before the label went all nasty techno...nice! :ruevil:

LONDON

1. Shaft Punk - Squat Rock (Stay Up Forever Remix)
Love the orginal tune but henry's remix its the one of the finest remix ive ever heard, classic!

2. Sharkey - Product Of Society (Smitten's Once Bitten Mix) (React)
Wicked acid techno tune, very fast & steve smitten remix, lovin it.

3. D.A.V.E. The Drummer - In The Freeze (Routemaster)
One of my fav routremasters.

4. Audio Pancake - Tandoori Nights (Karmic Records)
Realy miss for records like this, audio pancake record, trancey, fast and of course with a lot of 303, if i could try find best record by guy and carl this should get my vote on.

5. Temperature Drop - Spit Point (Cluster)
Dave The Drummer + Guy = Quallity release and this cluster its my fav one i think.

OUTSIDE LONDON

1. Ivan - Red Star (Intensiv)
Produced by my hero Oliver Lieb.

2. Nervous Project - II - Tower EP (Labworks Germany)
Holger Wick hes a founder labworks label & also great producer. Two massive acid techno tunes here and one acid trance. Great release from big 303 lover.

3. Aurin - Mecon (Harthouse)
I know why i still love acid after listening this tune again.....

4. Jammin' Unit - Flower Swing (DJ.Ungle Fever)
I think tune on A1 its one of the best acid and atmospheric track produced by colonge artists ever, total respect for the producer - Cem Oral.
Unfortunately record rare as hell ... Good luck with this one.

5. DP-SOL - Spacecakes Part 1-10 - Live In Oslo (The Spacefrogs)
Its not a vinyl release, its near 70 min live act by Oliver Lieb and Dennis Pierre Sarratou released on cd version only.
Hunted few weeks ago from ebay and i cant stop listening it.
Its a great ambient and downtempo mixture with a lot 303.
Live from 1994.

A lot of Petter tracks. Really good for the brain. Check out "All Together".

Also a pile of Acid Trance on Radar records and others.

Filthy track. "Cryogenic State" is my other fave early Cluster. Well, aside from "Creeper", of course.

Yay. I've been trying to pimp this to people. Man, those gents fancied some acid back in the day. I email with OL sometimes and he says he doesn't own a 303!

Skank - People Are Strange.

Just picked up a few of his records for a fiver each, this tune's doing it for me at the moment. Slow by Skank standards, large bassline, creepy delayed 303s, Jim Morrison sample, ****ing avin it.

Carbine - Ice

Nice, sorta minimal acid trance number. Good title for the track, as it actually sounds cold. Basically just the odd blip of acid, haunting strings, sparse hats and rolling bass.

Alex Calver - Fight Music

I really wish Calver had kept making hard, funky techno like this instead of moving into schranz. Love the sample.

Was on about this the other day and couldnt remember the name. Absolute quality techno track, one of my all time favourites - unsettling, hypnotic and just generally all round fantastic

On a kind of similar vein was the track with the 'burning cigarette end out the car window' sample - think it was on smitten but my memory is appalling - used to mix those two together very nicely

That'd be Vibe Bar Rejects, 70 Mph, I believe. Nice tune that, will have to try mixing them together when I get home.

SHLAG - Bazooka / Traffic Lights - Hazchem

Both sides are super fat! Bazooka is filthy and down right disturbing. Ravey freak out sounds! Traffic Lights is where it's at for me though. I love the old skool hardcore sounds and B-lines Hazchem had going on. Awesome stuff! What the hell is being said in the breakdown though? I've never ever been able to work out what's being said...?

Word, the Bastard remix of Rave is absolutely off the hook.

Really like the original too, but there's this one sound repeated throughout most of the song that always annoyed me.

 Glad you know what I'm on about. I was gonna try and explain it, then started thinking about how I would do that, then realised how stupid it would've sounded and gave up.

Warmduscher - 10 Kleine Bassdrums.

Heard this maybe five years ago on a CD with no tracky so had no idea what it was. Always planned to find out what it was, but never got around to it. Figured I never would when the CD, along with my bag, was stolen at a club. But stumbled across it purely by chance in my local record store last week.

Huge kick, punctuated by these strange kinda tearing noises, topped with a tweaking acid line. Cheesy strings in the break, but easily forgiveable. One of only two records on Tracid Trax that I ever liked.

Rowland the Bastard - Prozac Rmx

Vintage Bastard - dark, fast and hard as ****.

just played suf 29 Rough Justice, and it's a great track. I wanted to play T.H.C aswell, but I can't,cos the record has a MASSOVE kink in it. Must flatten it out,cos it's a belter.

Also dug out Blackout Audio 001,for shits and giggles.
