laptop or PC??

I would recomend from the top of my head... RME Multiface (with PCMCIA or PCI card), ROland UA1000 (the 1 I have with my PC right now), then off course the infamous Motu 828...

ANything less expensive... RME 9632 (pci card)...

he owns desktop mac.
so he doesn`t need any predevice, he can just buy a soundcard and plug it in?

I got a delta 1010 going to a pc, the thing is with sound cards all of them reproduce sounds fairly well but only some record well. if you want to just use soft synths such as absynth etc then you might not need the ability to record samples direct on to your mac, but i have found it very useful because i can a, sample records and b, record my mixes on to pc for transfer to cd or mp3 etc, my advice is to get the best you can afford, check out your neerest shop and ask for prices. personally speaking most of the delta series is worth a look at. hope this helps
