where can a bit of verb go down nicely in your experts opinions?

sparingly for a start,

to fill space delay is a better idea as its more controlable.

drums.

I love adding a touch of reverb to claps, hats and rides.

Also sometimes drenching the synths with reverb, printing it down to audio and resending it back into the sampler can have some cool effects.

Use it as a send though, and not as an insert. Verbs are notorious cpu killers.

indeed

look into getting a hardware verb, plenty of good un's can be found 2nd hand these days. I picked up a nice Lexicon mpx100 about a year ago cheap as chips, does the business.

in terms of software though Timeworks Reverb is my fave, LiquidVerb is cool too

Anywhere. The only rule in music, is if it sounds good; it is good.

Yeah, what he said.
Wherever you want to.
Be aware that your effects may need EQing as well, so post effects eq to clean up your verb may be needed.

I wouldn`t say you need hardware verbs to get a good sound, as most of them are just microchips in a box anyway.

Impulse Response reverbs are lovely.
