anyone one no the size of the firewireports in a laptop e.g 5 pin, 6 pin??

just for connecting up a audio interface....the interface is a 6 pin but a dnt know wot it is for a lappy

either four or six, the four port ones don't provide their own power, where as the six pin ones will.

rite ma lappy has got a 4 pin port.....checked the manual from the audio interface and it says the interface cant draw power from a 4 pin firewire cable so wot do i do here???

What interface is it? Does it have an external power conection socket?

its the motu ultralite....yeah its got d.c power in if thts wot u mean

You will have to get an adapter for the DC socket. If it doesnt come with one, make sure it is the right rating for the unit.

mate it comes wae a DC socket.....so how do a connect the interface to the lappy??

you will need to buy a 4 pin to 6 pin adapter mate.

so when a get the 4 - 6 pin adaptor it just means tht the interface isnt bus powered, (thts were the DC socket comes in) but the interface will still b connected with the lappy??
