Saw this fella at bloc

Really impressed. Still can't quite figure out what sort of music it is.

Feels techno to me... loads of attitude, the structure makes me think of techno and the way it rolls - but there's no 4/4.

Dead good set here: http://www.basterdized.com/the_wee_djs_-_LiveSet_Sept2007.mp3

As a rule I'd label it Electro, but it's definitely very dark rough Electro.

Dave's a wicked bloke.

Wicked pure dark electro. Really wanna catch him live. Got some excellent mixsets from him. I'll have a look for them Jay and post them up.

I like this a lot, I'd call it Minimal acid schranz hard industrial electro-tech.

lol. I found it funny in the Block thread where you were complaining about there being too much electro whilst bigging up the wee djs and this crazy new style he was playing . ;) It just wicked electro. And there is plenty of it. You should check some of Volsocs stuff. Also make sure to download the monthly mixes that 214 posts up on http://www.electroalliance.net/

Yip. Busby does some wicked mixes.

But I am going to be a twunt and once again the bass can be lacking in some digital sets.

I've honestly never heard anything like that. Electro/dubstep generally bores me, never keeps a rhythmn and is to sparse to hook me in.

There was too much of that at Bloc - sparse breaks stuff that made me feel tired/bored.

Thing I liked about the wee djs was that the beats fell in regular patterns. They provided a pretty consistent framework that all the mad atmospherics and synths were built around.

I like techno for the same reasons. You get into a rhythmn, forget about the rhythmn and focus on all the percussion and sounds surrounding the beat

Does all techno have to be four to the floor?
Is it electro by virtue of its off-beat drum programming?

generally. but who gives a shit. ;)

your right though the wee djs blurs the two.. as does good dubstep I reckon.

The textbook definition of electro is anything where all the sounds are electronically generated.

Like most pigeonholes though, it's come to mean a specific sound rather than a methodology.

I preferred it when names like "Techno" or "Electro" meant more about how you went about making the music than what it sounded like. You got more variety then.

good call, the wee djs are ace, been around for about ten years now though, so certainly not new, and i wouldnt say particulary innovative, clever certainly and very professional, just obviously care about what they do and they have a really good heavy electro sound going on.

check out "9k" on Spacebar Sentiments 01

lovely stuff
